CLOSED FOR THE SEASON! CHECK BACK WITH US IN THE SPRING! GIFT CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE. Bitter Creek Outfitters is a family-operated business providing scenic trail-rides just outside of Billings, Montana. On our guided tours, we'll treat you to a leisurely trek through the Montana countryside - atop the area's distinctive rimrocks, through ponderosa pines and fields full of wildflowers, mule deer and wild turkeys. We'll show you spectacular views of five different mountain ranges and a unique perspective of the city. Please email for more information. AGE, HEIGHT/WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS APPLY. PLEASE SEE WEBSITE FOR DETAILS. Please note that we are a full-time ranch, part-time trail riding outfit so advanced reservations are required. We do not keep our horses saddled in the corral & ready to go! If we don't answer the phone, we may be out on a ride or working so please leave a message. Email is the best way to reach us. Season runs late April thru October, weather permitting. We schedule our rides for mornings, starting at either 8 or 9am and avoid afternoon rides during peak summer heat but we can be flexible with your travel plans. Let us know what works best & we'll do our best to fit you in!

We'd had planned an early Oct trip to Montana and Yellowstone Natl Park. Things are winding down and not crowded that time of year but many things are already shut down. Although Bitter Creek would have been closed for the season, they emailed that they would stay open for my family. Not only did they stay open, they welcomed us... More

This is a working ranch, and the family and their friends will take time to show you exactly how to handle your mount, be safe and ride confidently. They had stories to tell about the area and each other. We saw deer. The every-ambitios dogs herded a few rabbits out of their holes. The geography of the area is fascinating... More

The working Kuhlmann Ranch serves as the perfect venue for Bitter Creek Outfitters. They are very family-friendly and offer an experience you can't miss. Entering the property, you may see the family and/or close friends working the cattle or tending to other chores on the ranch. As you park, you'll see the original family cabin from the 1800's where they... More

My wife and I were led on the ride by Theresa who along with her Dad own this huge ranch. Theresa's passion for horses and the ranch along with beautiful vistas during the ride made this an extremely enjoyable event. A picnic snack was also part of this ride and we were blown away when the setting appeared near then... More

My mom and I were in town for the week and chose to do a two hour tour. The guide and owner (Theresa) was an excellent guide! This was a one-of-a-kind tour, since most of the land in the area is owned by the family's ranch. She allows for the opportunity to dismount the horses and experience spectacular views overlooking... The first day of our vacation and we couldn't have had a better start. Perfect weather, a perfect place and a perfect 2 hour ride. The hosts are friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. The horses know their business and are in excellent condition. The ride covered a variety of terrain with the guides providing informative commentary. We are not regular riders,... More

We wanted a horseback ride in the great Montana countryside and found this listing for Bitter Creek Outfitters just outside Billings. Theresa was very accomodating and scheduled a ride for us later that day. The ride was wonderful and we saw so much of the countryside as we rode up a hill to see the vast landscape before us. Theresa... More

We took a trail with Theresa two weeks ago. Despite having to prepare for a Wedding that day she kindly agreed to schedule us for an early morning 2 hour trial. The horses were really safe and calm, the weather was beautiful and the scenery breathtaking. Theresa took great care to ensure everyone was fine and enjoying their ride. Wonderful... More
