This is the best ancient rock art site in the world, and I am an archaeology nut. Compared to the sites in France where you cannot get near the art this stuff is not fenced off. We had a group of five led by tour...More
Travelled the many hours from port Douglas to by hire car to Laura to do the Quinkan tour through the Quinkan and regional cultural centre.

If you have any interest in ancient cultures, this is a beyond fabulous experience. This is well worth the enrgy and the dollars to get there. There are sooooo many paintings in fantastic shape. It will be a very small tour, perhaps four. You get...More
The guided tour with a local bloke driving along rough 4WD tracks out to the rock art sites was something very special and a highlight of our whole trip. The art was impressive and really should be preserved before it suffers too much decay.
The best galleries are about 45 minutes drive from Laura on a bush track with several jump-ups and some locked gates, so can only be visited by arrangement at the Cultural Centre and with the Centre staff driving the Centre's 4WD vehicles. We were part...More
The Quinkan Galleries are very impressive and deserve great attention, but the tour price ($160pp) is really too much. The tour only went for 2 hours which was sufficient to see what was at the Quinkan Galleries.

I don't think they have a pensioner discount, but the tour we took was well worth the expense. We had a personalised 4WD guided tour into an inaccessible area where the rock art was in several galleries and its cultural significance was well explained. We'll remember the experience long after we've forgotten how much we paid for the tour.
