Petting zoo should be removed
Aug 2021 • Friends
The park is a beautiful setting. Everything was well groomed. The horses were clearly the star.

We enjoyed the horse show, the museum and the stables. The museum was very well done.

However SKIP the petting zoo on the property. It was a very hot day the day we visited and we were shocked to see pouli dogs kept in such a small unshaded space. The dogs were clearly stressed, panting and their heavy fur looked matted in places. I wish I had taken a picture but I left very quickly. The curly haired pig was also kept in such a small space that the animal could just lay in one spot.

It was really surprising that people who work with animals would have such a sub-standard area on their property.

Hungarian Horsemen
Jul 2019
My husband and I went to this equestrian park while touring with Viking. The show the horsemen did was excellent. Their horsemanship was just brilliant and the horses beautiful. The spices on sale were well priced and very fresh.
I would thoroughly recommend this show to anyone visiting Hungry.

Mostly enjoyable experience
Dec 2019
This was an excursion on our river cruise, and there were many aspects of our visit to the Lazar Lovaspark that were interesting/impressive/fun. It's a huge compound with horse stables, inns, dining facilities, small animal pens, an indoor exhibition hall, a gift shop, a museum, and acres and acres of green pasture.

We arrived to the staff waiting for us with palinka (a Hungarian brandy that is at least 37.5% alcohol) and savory scones. I tried to drink the palinka (our ship guide said it's best to do it all at once to "get it over with," as he put it) but could only manage a few sips -- if I had anything I needed to get some paint off of, this stuff would be handy. The scone was soft and biscuit-like and deelish.

Since this was December and it was chilly, our equestrian show took place in the indoor exhibition hall. It was a demonstration of horse and rider skills, with carts and individuals riding. Some were Lipizzaner horses and some were a special Hungarian-developed breed. All were beautiful and impressive. I particularly loved the woman riding side-saddle on her horse which did all kinds of "fancy footwork" sorts of maneuvers. Some demos involved a guy standing on the backs of two of the four horses in his team while they ran around the exhibit hall. There were aspects of this I didn't particularly enjoy and I realize that I'm looking at this through the lens of my own 21st century sensibility while they were demonstrating historic/cultural traditions. But I didn't care for the demonstrations involving the rider cracking a loud whip in the air (not hitting the horses, though) as they "drove" -- I also wasn't crazy about the demonstrations where they got the horses to lie down in the dirt and they either put their foot on top of them triumphantly or sat on them as if they were furniture. Again, I realize that I am looking at this through my own contemporary point of view and there was nothing to suggest that the horses were in any way being mistreated, I just personally don't care for expressions of dominance over animals. At the end of the demo one of the riders placed a hat on the bleacher next to me and we were all to place tips in the hat and pass it down, which we did.

I did like getting to visit the stables and seeing the horses up close (they looked healthy and gorgeous to me). There was a museum and a film about the racing prowess of the owners, complete with a dazzling room full of awards and trophies, including a clear floor with a bunch of them underfoot. We also were treated to a lovely buffet snack time which included those famous Hungarian chimney cakes! I bought some nice sweet paprika in their gift shop.

The other aspect I wasn't real happy about was the little small animal "zoo" on the property. There was a special breed of pig and sheep. The thing I didn't like about it was that one of the pens contained Hungarian Puli dogs. Back to the fact that I realize it's my own sense of things, but I don't think of dogs as livestock and didn't like seeing them in a pen.

The whole experience was well-organized and gave a good sample of a variety of Hungarian traditions and equestrian skills. It was also nice to get out of the city and see the countryside for a bit.

Hungarian Horsemen
Oct 2019 • Friends
This was an optional tour from our Viking river cruise. This was a great experience to watch the Hungarian horsemen ride. The park is owned by the world champion coach drivers, the Lazar brothers. We went on a wagon ride, visited the horse stables, went through a museum. The show that they put on illustrates the exciting horsemanship by highly skilled riders

Fantastic tour during our 14 day River Cruise
Nov 2019
This was our last tour we did of a 14 day Viking Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest and definitely one of the highlights of the trip. It was beautiful, informative, and enjoyed the experience of getting to visit the stable and petting the horses They had an awesome museum about the brothers who won countless trophies in championship carriage racing and experienced a wonderful horse show that was evidence of the Hungarian Horsemanship. I'm so glad we decided to do this tour..

A Wonderful Afternoon in the Hungarian Countryside
Oct 2019 • Couples
After a brief journey into Hungarian horse country, we arrived at the Lazar Equestrian Park. After some light appetizers & the National brandy for hundreds of years (Palinka), we enjoyed a centuries-old Hungarian horseback riding exhibition featuring riders in traditional costumes. Our seats were close to the horsemen & pictures were encouraged. The accompanying narration in Excellent English added to the experience.
After the exhibition, we visited the stables & the newly constructed multi-media museum. We ended the visit with a horse and buggy ride through the countryside.
The historical Hungarian horsemanship is alive and well at the Lazar family park!!!

Well worth the visit
Sep 2019
We visited the park as a precruise event. The location is beautifully manicured, the horses are treated like royalty, the lunch was over the top delicious...and the horse show is not to be missed. This side trip is well worth the money..

A lovely day in the Hungarian countryside!
Sep 2019
We spent a really pleasant day visiting the Lazar Equestrian Park as part of a small guided tour. Fresh air, green grass, and the beauty of the Hungarian countryside can all be appreciated here. We were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and some rolls, and visited a small farm with a number of animals native to Hungary. A lovely ride in a horse drawn cart through the forest and along the trails of the property followed.

An enjoyable and entertaining show featured many horses and riders doing various tricks and acts, along with other animals such as oxen. We particularly loved the white donkey who was so sweet and patient -- and who proved, in the end, that he could do his own trick after all!

For a venture out of Budapest to spend some time in the countryside, this is a beautiful and picturesque place to be, and the animals appear well-loved and well-cared for, which all animal lovers can appreciate!
