We did both the Wow Amazing Animal Encounter and the Guided Tour. We had such an amazing time and learned so much! The guides were so knowledgeable and friendly! The cost of the tour was only a few dollars more than standard admission and really made it much more enjoyable. The guides were able to tell us about and demonstrate certain mannerisms in the animals. I hope to go back again when it’s warmer!

We got to hold Buzz the Tawny owl. She was great! We very much enjoyed the fun facts her handler shared with us, including how successful WBS has been in breeding owls. After we held Buzz we were treated to an outdoor flight demonstration with two other owls.

World Bird Sanctuary is a short drive west of downtown St. Louis. This Sanctuary houses raptors who have physical challenges that prohibit their release, raptors in rehab who will be released, raptors raised to be breeders to keep critically endangered species viable, and raptors who are educational ambassadors. The staff clearly loves the birds in their care and the sanctuary is an amazingly peaceful place to visit. There are walking trails as well as owls, eagles, a condor, emus, pelicans, and more to view. If you are a wild bird watcher, bring binoculars, because the 300 acre wooded area surrounding the Sanctuary is a bird watcher’s heaven. I attended a free show that was incredibly entertaining and run by a skilled staff. There is a nominal entrance fee ($12 per car). The gift shop was closed when I visited.

We did the bird show and raptor experience this Saturday. Such a fun time! I would recommend arriving a little early and heading into the gift shop to grab a drink and ask for directions. All of the staff were wonderful, especially CJ who did the raptor experience with us. We will definitely be back to continue to support the world bird sanctuary. Booking the 10 AM experience was a great idea to beat the heat as well.

We enjoyed reading about all the birds and their history's. The show was good but wish we were able to see the whole thing, since it was a shortened version due to not enough workers. We some with a trainer for several minutes afterwards. Small area for RV or bus parking. Bathrooms, picnic tables and a gift shop there.

If you love birds, this is a nice experience. We saw the WoW show and did the Handle a Raptor experience. The show could have included a few more birds, but as with any show with animals, you work with what you've got. The Handle a Raptor was great. We got up close and personal with an owl. Make sure you do the long walk with the larger birds.

I had a great time. The entry fee and prices at the gift shop are very reasonable. I paid extra for the “handle an exotic rapture” experience. That is a little pricey but understandable when you consider the cost that goes into caring for all the birds. I found it to be well worth it for the experience. The staff there are amazing! I can’t wait to go back! If you love birds, you need to go!

We had not been to the World Bird Sanctuary in decades and it was such a great experience! First we did the Raptor Experience which was super educational and I highly recommend for anyone who is an owl, bird, or just an animal lover. It was so cool to see all of the birds housed at the Sanctuary and I really enjoyed how most of the enclosures displayed the story of the bird(s) and how WBS came into their lives. Looking forward to coming back in a few months and walking the trails when everything is blooming.

We had a wonderful visit last month. There are so many beautiful birds at the sanctuary. We were amazed by the one-winged Peregrine falcon who had no issue hopping about perch to perch to get food. We did the Emu experience and spent 30 minutes learning all about the 2 resident emu's, hand-feeding them, and petting them. Really cool!

My autistic son is fascinated with birds, and has always wanted to have one land on his hand. So, for his birthday, he was gifted with the experience to hold the wild raptor.
The bird handler was phenomenal with my son, and answered our many questions. She was wonderful.
I highly recommend this experience for anyone who wants to see raptors up close. We will definitely go again!
