About
In 2005, Shawn Askinosie left a successful career as a criminal defense lawyer to start a bean to bar chocolate factory and never looked back. Askinosie Chocolate is a small batch, award winning chocolate factory located in Springfield, Missouri, sourcing 100% of their beans directly from farmers. The only chocolate maker working directly with cocoa farmers on four continents, Shawn travels to regions of Ecuador, Honduras, the Philippines and Tanzania to source cocoa beans for his chocolate. This allows the chocolate to be traced to the source and labeled authentic single origin. It also enables Askinosie Chocolate to profit share with the farmers, giving them a "Stake In the Outcome," a principle he learned from author/entrepreneur Jack Stack. The Askinosie Chocolate mission is to serve their farmers, their neighborhood, their customers and each other, sharing the Askinosie Chocolate experience by leaving the world a better place than they found it.

I’ve been purchasing chocolates from Askinosie for well over 2 years and couldn’t be more pleased with their quality products. Being able to know where your beans were grown is impressive and the selection of quality chocolates is a plus. My wife made me a chocoholic and we like different strength bars and we have different tastes in chocolates. Love it!

A bit leery of buying very expensive chocolate (and it is expensive) but I wanted to buy a good friend a special present for her birthday. They have milk chocolate and dark, plus other flavors added. There are opportunities to taste each if you like. I mentioned I was not a fan of dark chocolate so I was given a piece and it was very tasty! Staff member said the bitterness is taken out in their processing, it had a raspberry flavor to it and it was great. Milk chocolate was also the best I'd ever tasted. So, this place is the real deal, if you want the best of something for yourself or a special friend, this may well be the place for you! It's a must see place in Springfield.

They specialize in bean to bar chocolate. They aren't able to give tours yet but the staff was very friendly and volunteered to answer any questions we had. We had a great conversation with the young man. We were given samples to try and learned a lot about the process. There isn't a large lobby as most of their product is shipped out but you are able to buy product there. This is in a older historic part of town and you could walk around the "square", weather permitting.

If you are in Springfield and a chocolate lover then this is a stop you have to make. No kidding....their chocolate creations are out of this world. I wish I could have bought a piece of every type they produce, it was that good. Yes, a little pricey but it was so worth it. Try the broken bars at 50% off if you are unsure of just what you'd like. Worth the trip finding this gem. Could not tour due to Covid but they were available to sell at walk up window. Only credit cards used

A very interesting tour of the chocolate factory. Starting with the cocoa bean and going through each step of the chocolate making process. Very informative and interesting! An added perk was the samples of chocolate from different country's as the tour progressed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It is a must see in Springfield. The direct trade with the cocoa bean growers is a very exciting concept. The chocolate delicious and couldn’t be more pure. We will be ordering more online.

It was raining the day we went - me and my two teens. We leapt inside and were immediately greeted by the amazing smell of the place. The "tour" as full as it was spring break. We donned out hairnets and the guide began his spiel. While I did learn some stuff, I wouldn't exactly call this a factory or a tour. You walk about 30 feet in one direction as the guide tells you about history of the place, how cocoa is grown, etc. Then, you swivel and walk back 30 feet while the guide tells you about some of the equipment, etc. You get to taste a few kinds of chocolate - straight up dark chocolate and straight up white chocolate. I like to support local business, so I found it worthwhile, but Willy Wonka this is not.

Askinosie Chocolate Company is small but worth the visit. The staff is knowledgeable about the different chocolates. Anytime I have visited they always have something new to try.

I was in the city just for one night and I am glad I came to visit this place! They have delicious chocolates there and you can try them before buying.
I forgot her name but there is a young girl there that speaks Portuguese and she is very knowledgable and friendly. She showed me the chocolates and as I am brazilian I felt very welcomed by her specialty because once I said I was from Brazil she immediately start speaking portuguese with me and she is American. You have a great employee there, she is a treasure!

Walked in and there wasn’t anything to see. Was expecting to tour and watch them make the chocolate. The chocolate was very good though!

We're so glad you enjoyed our chocolate! Sorry you missed our tour day - every Tuesday at 3:30 we host a guided look at our factory. If you find yourself at our factory again, try to make it a Tuesday (though sometimes we offer special weekend tours, the details of which can be found on askinosie.com/learn/tour-our-factory) and we'd love to show you around!
