We visited the museum after lunch with our kids (ages 6 and 9). We could have spent hours here if we really took our time and read everything. We moved a little more quickly with the kids. They had neat interactive options throughout the museum, including a video game set up in a train that allows you different ways to survive a trip out west (any other Oregon trail kids like myself will want to play, too!), a time machine trolley, and a Wild West shoot-out target practice! The museum covers Native American history, western American history, and the history of the famous Route 66. Very interesting and fun family activity!…

First, I want to thank the History Museum for adapting their ghost tour to follow recommendations for safety during COVID. They have adapted it to a mostly outdoor walking tour with limited group size. The tour had eight people and the guide. Everyone was required to wear a mask which is also required by our local government but it was enforced on the tour. We adequately spaced out for social distancing which was easy because we were outside. The one indoor portion of the tour (5 minutes) was inside the old FOX theater which was large enough to space out. This was my first time at the museum and they explained that their prior tours were in a bus. In my opinion the walking tour would be far better than a bus tour in non-COVID time. It is approximately 1-mile walk on flat ground at an easy pace. Walking allows you to see and experience the downtown architecture and ambiance unlike driving. I hope the walking tour option is something they continue to offer after COVID. It was a fun way to see the downtown area! The guide was very knowledgeable and told us interesting historical stories. She was very good at incorporating the ghost stories too. This was one of the best activities I have done in Springfield and am so encouraged by their ability to make it COVID safe (or as safe as possible). …
