Choices, Choices... and nnone will disappoint!
Apr 2021
This is a place of choices. It has something for everyone. A half mile trial for the beginners. A waterfall at the end of the half mile trail for the kids to play at or adult to marvel at. And if you're an avid hiker, you will definitely wish to try the more demanding 1 mile trail across the street. You will want to go a day or so after a good rain as the waterfall is weather permitting. DEFINITELY treat yourself to a view of the waterfall during the winter to see the entire waterfall frozen in place!

Beautiful hike in Ste. Genevieve

What a gem of a place in Ste. Genevieve! We enjoyed this hike so much! We took our teenage daughter, 4 year old & 2 year old. They loved playing in the creek here. The waterfall is simply gorgeous.

10 minutes off Interstate 55

We were headed to St. Louis from Memphis and just wanted an hour or two of nature exploring. Our GPS took us there, however it said "park along side road then walk to destination" which appeared to be nothing. Drive about about 1/4 a mile or less further and you'll see a pull over area. Signage is poor, though there is a small sign once you walk towards trail which is lightly marked. There is a half mile hike on one side or road, and the mile loop across the road. We first did the 1/2 mile down to where the waterfall would have been, but there was no water running down. Still beautiful. We did the other hike and for all it took us approximately an hour. It was a little rugged but so pretty and relaxing. It was perfect to break up our trip and have fun in nature.

wonderful nature hiking

Find this hiking gem off of County Road C in Sainte Genevieve County, past Weingarten town MO Hwy 32. Not a great distance in length so can be done as fast as your legs will carry you or as slowly as you enjoy strolling. Great picture opportunities depending on time of day and time of year

Out of the way, WELL worth the drive!

We headed out to this canyon hoping for a great hike and were absolutely rewarded with 2 gorgeous, challenging hikes. There are 2 trails (one on each side of the road where we parked) that we saw so we went on the 1 mile hike first. We were so lucky that there was water running in the small creeks and stream at the bottom of the canyon. The hike contained some relatively steep descents and assents but was so worth it. There were limestone rock walls, waterfalls (very small but they were there!) and flora starting to bloom. We were able to walk behind several of the waterfalls as the cave-like depressions were deep enough behind the water to stay dry. Fantastic photo ops!

After hiking the longer loop, we went across the street to the 1/4 mile (each direction) hike down to a box canyon. We were more than pleasantly surprised to find that there are sufficient trails up/down around the box canyon that we turned the hike into a mile before heading back to the car. As with the first hike, there were some steep descents/ascents involved which were so worth the climbs. We found a waterfall in the box canyon and the views were stunning when we climbed to the top of the falls. It was really, really beautiful! The temps on the date we went were in the mid-50s with sun and no wind. The hike was challenging without being overwhelming.

Hope you get to see water in the streams if you go to this canyon!

Lot to see in a short hike
Mar 2018 • Couples
The one mile hike was a great loop, with an interesting descent (relatively steep on one side, as noted in an earlier review for those with small children) and not too strenuous ascent on the way back. Loved the creek crossings, as we went at a perfect time - not too high, but still high enough to see the minnows darting about. The box canyons and ledges are awesome. Missouri is beautiful.

Nice Hike
Sep 2017 • Couples
This is a nice hike with lots of boulders and rock formations. Also many caves along the route. Saw some families here with small children. Not good. There are many cliffs and you would need to watch them constantly

....its too nice. We went on a chilly and damp day when rain was threatening. It was gorgeous. Waterfalls and ferns and beauty everywhere unspoiled by commercialism and other people.

It really neat to see especially during the winter when the water running over the bluff has frozen.
