About
Owned and operated since 1949 by The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Missouri, the Bolduc House Museum tells the story of New France, the OTHER Colonial America, under the governments of both France and Spain before the Louisiana Purchase. Your experience takes you to three historic houses, including the National Historic Landmark, vertical log, circa 1792 Louis Bolduc House and its 18th century French kitchen garden. You will also explore the stories of French colonial Americans, Shawnee and Delaware Indians, and French African slaves in the oldest town of Missouri. Hear the stories, touch the stuff, sniff the flowers and let your curiosity free here where we make French colonial American history fun!

The Old House
Jul 2021
The locals that we spoke to on our trip always referred to this as 'the old house' and it is easy to see why. It is from the 1790's originally and built by a French businessman. It is a really fascinating house to tour. It survived the 1811 earthquakes and is in excellent condition. There is a large Caribbean style gallery porch surrounding the house that gives it a very distinctive look. I have been here before but I always enjoy going back.

Multiple options available to tour this property, very nice
Jul 2021
This property is overall called the "Centre for French Colonial Life." You can pay to see the museum ($5), and/or take a tour of the Bolduc House ($10). We saw the museum but did not tour the house. The museum had a lot of information on the Battle of San Carlos in St Louis, and the role of Ste. Genevieve residents in it. There were a number of artifacts on display, many relating to life in the Ste Genevieve area under French and Spanish rule. Today when we visited, the outdoor "campus" of this property was open to all for a free program on the military's influence on the area. There were participants dressed in period garb representing the French militia of the 1700's, the Revolutionary War soldiers, the Civil War, and World War 2. This activity was REALLY good. So, I cannot rate the tour of the Bolduc Home, but this property is a "must-see."

Paid tour

We stopped at The Centre for French Colonial Life to purchase tickets for a guided tour. $10/person. Sites are well maintained and tour guide did an excellent job even though she said it was her first tour. Very interesting history.

This house is part of the Center for French Colonial Life. It is a good house tour with a lot of information on early Missouri history. Great view into the history and architecture of the area.

This historic home and French is a must see!
May 2019 • Friends
We first visited the French Colonial Museum and enjoyed the information and artifacts displayed there. Then we toured three of the historic homes with a knowledgeable guide. I loved the furnishings, the cooking fireplaces, the distinctive architecture of the buildings and beautiful gardens. Anyone visiting Ste Genevieve should not miss this tour. The French Colonial Museum is the place to start the tour and purchase a ticket.

Managed by the new French Colonial Museum, Boldec and its neighboring house are worth every penny of the $10 tour.

Closed due to owners dispute
Jun 2018 • Couples
This place which is one of the best houses to visit in Ste. Gen is closed due to an owner's dispute. The sign doesn't completely say this when you get there (it says unforeseen circumstances) but locals can tell you the real story.
