The loop as they call it ,needs a policeman every 50 feet up and down the street. I'd say that this is a great neighborhood to be robbed, car jacked or worse. It was quite a few years since I was last visiting here and my how has the local citizenry changed. I certainly would advise others to stay away during hours of darkness.

This is really one of the mid unique areas in the country. Interesting restaurants. Several fantastic coffee shops. The arts play a prominent role in district. Plenty of parking. Easy access. Fantastic really.

Best scene at a distance. We drove through it, some interesting old signs and buildings. Stopped and took photos at the Chuck Berry statue and ate at Blueberry Hill....the neighborhood goes down pretty quickly from there.

Reminds me a lot of Westport in KC. There are a lot of things to do here but don't loiter lest you become a target for some unsavory character. We recently took our small children to a play in downtown St Louis and dropped the older teenagers off for a concert at The Pageant. I'm not going to be PC here and will just call it like it is - There were about 6-10 black guys (about 30-40 years old) hanging outside the venue trying to sell drugs or whatever to the kids leaving the concert. Their mannerisms and the way they approached these kids was meant to intimidate...and they did. We waited for about one hour and saw ONE Police cruiser...One! Some foot patrols by the local police would probably clean this area up a little. At any rate, we felt much safer waiting with my .45 cal Ruger in my lap.

Named one of the best streets in the U.S., it is a fun street with restaurants (like Blueberry Hill (where you can see Chuck Berry perform live each month), Fitz's Bottling Co. (menu with lots of variety where you can watch their soda's being bottled while you eat), two amazing taco places, Middle Eastern & Thai restaurants, The Peacock Grill and many sidewalk cafe's; lots of funky and unusual shops, the Moonrise (a beautiful boutique hotel with rooftop (where a huge moon goes round and wonderful Eclipse restaurant), the Pageant Theatre (where lots of rocker's perform live & they let you bring in great pizza's from across the street), a Washington University of St. Louis hangout and living area, live musicians performing on streets, art galleries, a glass blowing factory, frozen yogurt, coffee houses, the renovated Tivoli Theatre (where Indy and foreign films are shown), a farmers market, large free parking lot, the University City Library, a Chuck Berry statue and part of a future trail to walk, Plowshares store with items from all over the world - supporting people in 1,000 villages in poor countries, an Ice Carnival in the winter, a street car soon to open thru the area that will take you to nearby Forest Park (named #1 urban park in the country) and all its attractions. You get the idea!

Crime infested, dirty, not worth visiting for any reason. The Delmar Loop is a lost cause. Frightening.

Let me start with the food and drink. American, Thai, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Italian, Mexican. The loop has it all. You have to try the Root Beer Float at Fitz,s. The Shrimp Taco at Mission Taco Joint. The Cheeseburger at Blueberry Hill (and the darts). The mezza at Ranoush. I could go on forever. A special is the trombone group that plays near Fitzs and the drum circle. For a real treat go back as often as you can.

When you search top places to visit in St. Louis, The Loop makes the top 10, but I cannot for the life of me understand why. This small strip has scattered restaurants spotted with hookah stores, hair salons, and two to three clothing stores. Major disappoint after the huge buildup so many websites gave it. Do not waste your time or money going there unless it’s to eat at one the restaurants.

We were in St. Louis 6/24-6/26. Friday night we wanted to go check out the loop, as we'd heard it was "One of the top 10 streets in the US." We took the MetroLink in. There was a man in our car having an agressive conversation with himself for 40 minutes. The stop before the Loop, about 30 teenagers got onto the train and were very intimidating. I'd like to say, we are NOT a meek group. We're capable adults who have frequented New York and Chicago. Not easily shaken. A couple of the guys were checking us out VERY obviously (we were not dressed scantily and were with our husbands). The street was sparsely populated for a Friday night. We were very disappointed in our options. Popped into the first place we saw to eat, got dessert, and headed home because we felt so uncomfortable.

Caught the 10:04 pm train home. The whole MetroLink Station area was uneasy. So many people were just loitering there, we saw the same faces before and after dinner. There were two security officers, who we stood in plain view of while waiting for the train.

Didn't feel safe the entire time. Was afraid to drink and have fun because we didn't want to be impaired. Save yourself disappointment, go to another area of town.

On the "Ten Greatest Streets in America" list!
Restaurants, shopping, arts & entertainment, galleries, luxury boutique hotel, funky shops of all kinds, lunch spots and nightlife central all rolled into one!
While strolling through it all, don't forget to look down: St. Louis' Walk of Fame features bronze stars embedded in the sidewalk with plaques commemorating the accomplishments of famous locals.
