Not your regular library by any stretch. The sculptures, brass filigree and North 'Writers' Reflection Pool' do hide the practical stacks and e-systems of an incomparable 21st Century library.

We stopped in just because our innkeepers said it was worth seeing, and was it ever. Along with the lobby of the Union Station Hotel, this was the most beautiful "from a lost era" sight we saw. The ceilings are spectacular, the place is spacious...More

Visiting a public library is typically not the first thing on my list for vacation but the Central Public in STL is a gem. The inside architecture is a work of art itself. The staff and volunteers are extremely friendly. This was a great stop...More

We visited this library so we could see the architecture. The building was renovated and expanded in 2012, about a century after it's initial construction. This extensive renovation restored and preserved the Great Hall while simultaneously adding enormous structural elements to the building. That mix...More

Great option if you want a quite place, large rooms in a nice building. Went in the evening to spare some time - it was not crowded, was impressed by the main hall, the nice area for youngsters and the room for kids.

Stunning building and one of the best stocked libraries I have ever seen. Wish I had more time while visiting St Louis to spend here. Well worth a visit to see the history of how it was built and the amazing ceilings. Lucky residents having...More

I had a condo for during the work week on 17th & Pine. I used to drive by it each day, watching them during renovations. I finally went in after. It is so lovely. Great views in every direction. Truly a gem in the middle...More

The Central Library is absolutely gorgeous - beautiful frescoes, great architecture, and interesting murals. You could spend a lot of time wandering around and looking in to all of the different rooms. But what especially impressed me is that it's a working library. There were...More

A public library is the People's University - for ALL to use. The Central Library in downtown St. Louis is truly a magnificent treasure for this city. The free concert last night was packed and just one of many free programs offered here. The librarians...More
