The Pony Express Monument is a visual reminder that St. Joseph, Missouri was the starting point for riders heading west through Indian territory. There are a number of other historic sites to visit not far from the statue.

Too many people have forgotten the short-lived Pony Express. Yet, before the telegraph, this was the fastest way to get mail from St. Joseph, MO to California. A wonderful tribute to all of those wonderful young men who made a mark in history.I pass this almost every week for all of my life--still makes an impression!

Very cool exhibit. Sort of hard to find, and when you do find it parking is difficult. We had to park up the hill, and walk down. The exhibit is surrounded all around by busy roads, but worth a look.

St. Joseph IS where the Pony Express began and Jesse James ended. Some may question why the horse and rider are not facing west, but the short-lived Pony Express route WAS roundtrip. The model for many a postcard, the Pony Express Monument stands in all its glory in a small grassy area with plenty of room to stop and photograph.

A good photo stop. Beautiful statute right in the center of town. Park in the city hall parking lot and a short walk to the monument.

The Pony Express museum has been in existence for many years, but was rejuvenated and is much bigger and offers a better experience of the historical period now than before. Interesting for everyone.
