Band sucked
Jun 2018
I have no idea which band but it would play 20 mins and take a 20 min break. They played like a pick up band discussing which songs they knew before they played. We were in bar 40 mins and heard all of 3 songs because they went on break as soon as we came down. We had also heard them during our dinner upstairs. We’re there June 1. I had carried a beer down with me. Waiter asked once in the 40 mins if we needed anything.

Small Venue up close to the Band
Nov 2017 • Friends
We seen the "Jeremiah Johnson Band", on Saturday evening, 11/24/17. The place is small and the sound was good. There is NO drink Service, You have to get your drinks from the Bar. Only 2 bartenders, and they worked Hard to keep up with the Full Crowd Thirst. We ate at the Kendrick's Restaurant upstairs, prior to the 7:30 Door Opening, for the 8:00 Show

Great place... but
Nov 2017
This was my first visit. LOVED atmosphere! Such a fun place. Great Band... but the service was not good. Only 2 bartenders for probably 100 people (popular band). No barback, no servers. They needed help. Despite 3 deep at the bar they were lugging their own ice through the bar, they ran out of tall glasses at one point. No one to pick up glasses/bottles from table. Just one more staff member or a little assistance from upstairs restaurant would have helped so much.

Nice Spot for a Night Cap

This was on the walk home from dinner and casino. It featured a good live act, speedy bar man, and a good liquor and beer selection.

AWESOME EXPERIENCE
Feb 2017 • Solo
The Moonshine Blues Bar has a great restaurant upstairs - Hendricks BBQ. We had dinner upstairs before heading downstairs for live music. The stage is fantastic and there is plenty of room to dance. The decor and ambiance are outstanding - good vibes all around. The drinks are moderately priced and the food upstairs was excellent; this I must say. I enjoyed our night out and am looking forward to the next time.

Great Food upstairs, great music downstairs. Great little bar!

The upper level is a restaurant called Hendrick's BBQ. The food is excellent and so is the service. Try the whole shebang if there are more than two people eating. It will easily feed five people, but even if there are only three of you it will still save you money and it's a sampler of all of their BBQ'd meats and sides. Everything is good quality though. You won't go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Try their homemade smoked pastrami sandwich, or the Chicken in a biscuit or the pulled pork nachos. All extraordinary!
Downstairs is a small blues bar/dance club called Moonshine Blues Bar. They have limited food, maybe three items on the menu. The Pulled Pork nachos are incredible (see above). If you want a full menu, you can go upstairs and bring it down with you.
There is no table service from the bar downstairs. Most people who visit pick up on this when they see that there are no servers. You just walk up to the bar. It is a very small room. The music at this Blues Bar is INCREDIBLE. Top notch entertainment for a $5 cover charge. If you eat or drink upstairs first there is NO cover charge downstairs. They waive the fee. Well worth it to have a drink at the upstairs bar first and then mosey downstairs for some great blues/rock/Dance music etc. The bands we have seen are all great. If you like to dance, "Groove Thang" plays once or more per month. A truly great funky dance band. The lead singer is world class, but the whole band is great! Other nights they have bands more in the style of Stevie Ray Vaughn and other great blues rock bands. We love this place, and will continue to go often. Whether to eat at Hendrick's or hear great music at Moonshine. They have a huge selection of fine whiskeys and and craft beers. The staff has always been friendly and attentive. We live about five miles from this place. It's been our favorite bar since we discovered it about six months ago. A gem in old St. Charles.

Little basement bar
Sep 2015
The resatuarant hendricks upstairs is great.
This bar, not so much. The stage is ok and enough room on the floor to dance.
However the food they serve down there is very limited. Eat upstairs 1st. There is always a cover.
The bar is very small and they use cans of soda to mix with.
Drinks were ok priced. If you just want to watch a show, then its great, but its not a great bar for food/drinks.

Long time patron but never go back
Feb 2016 • Couples
Like some others on here we walked in and waited for more than 15 minutes and still hadn't gotten service so we finally walked up to the bar and were told it was to late to get a drink.
I used to love this place. I was willing to pay more for the chance to taste bourbon and whiskey that you can't find in other bars. I had even recommended in the past to a ton of folks that I knew were into good bourbon. I will never go back (or recommend the place) after last night. Service was dreadful as the bar tender was more interested in doing shots with the group of customers at the corner of the bar that waiting on folks. She yelled for last call (a good hour before closing time) and then proceeded to yell at the group she had just done shots with "no puking at my bar." I was finally able to get through to the rail on the bar only to be yelled at by her "I am done making drinks tonight." Just terrible service (we had to go to the bar as no one was about to come out from behind it and take orders) and dreadful experience. Bar Louis is right around the corner and while there selection may not be as extensive it is good enough for me. I am not going to stand by and be treated like this by such rude and inconsiderate bar tenders and wait staff.

Great little blues bar
Feb 2016 • Solo
This is a great place. It's a smaller good looking place with live music on the weekends. It's a whiskey and moonshine bar with hundreds of different high quality brands. The live music was really good, and the volume was just right. It wasn't too loud, and you could actually talk to people without having to yell. The bartenders know what they're doing, too, and will give you recommendations.

Never Again
Jul 2015
Here is the experience-draw your own conclusions.Me and the wife unit walk in to BBQ place upstairs and ask if they serve food in the bar downstairs and if they will be playing live music. "Yes" is the answer and we proceed. We walk in to the bar, which is not overly crowded, and see two barkeeps and what appears to be another worker. We ask worker: " Can we sit anywhere?" to which "Yes" is only answer. We sit. We wait. We read limited menu. Three choices-OK, not a big deal. We wait more. We figure out its bar service only (would have been nice to know huh?). I walk to bar-both barkeeps are busy. I belly-up to bar. I wait. I read drink menu-bunch of hard liquor specialties-hence the name Moonshine right? I wait more. Hmmm-they do have some craft beer, and two choices for wine- RED and WHITE. Hmmmm. I wait some more-read the menu 3 times while barkeep is making some elaborate drink. Another patron now comes up to bar and sits next to me. Barkeep finishes her creation -finally, then looks past me and asks the guy who just came up what he wants. OK maybe she didn't see me standing here for 15 minutes-give her a break right? Lighten up right? Not sure who I was most impressed by-the oblivious barkeep or the guy who scammed my place at the bar. Second barkeep finishes-now he starts cleaning glasses right in front of me. I start to ask a question and now a lady comes up to bar next to me. Second barkeep ask her whats she wants. I'm done. Me and wife unit depart.OK-its a bar. Barkeeps have a tough job. I respect them. There is no number system at the bar right?-every man for himself right? I agree. I will spend my cash at places that will take it.
