The caves are nice, but you cannot see the paintings with or without guide, no explanation was given. Entrance is 10 leva per person and you must be accompanied by a guide. You bd an see rabisha lake after exiting the cave.

You can’t see the prehistoric drawings. No facilities. Toilet locked (March). Nice cave but came here thinking we could see the drawings. Lovely girl showing us the cave but limited English.

Although the entrance seems small and cramped at first, after just a few meters you find yourself in an incredibly large cave. I have visited many grottos myself. This cave was by far the largest. You go from one large room to the next. There are a few narrow spots, but they aren't really worth mentioning. You should be careful with your footwear, as there are a lot of slippery spots.
Conclusion: the trip there is definitely worth it!

We arrived here at 09:45 (10th October 2023). All the info said that entry was from 10:00 to 16:00. We went to pay the admission charge only to be told we couldn’t go in because the minimum number of people was 4.
Even if we had been offered a guided tour for two, we wouldn’t have been able to see the prehistoric cave paintings. Apparently, they are closed to the public.
There would also have been a charge for parking and another 2 levs each for a lift from the exit back to the car park!
The staff were sitting around drinking and smoking and no doubt being paid. So why bother showing tourists around?????? !!!!!
If you are thinking of visiting, I really wouldn’t bother!

The place is extremely beautiful. The people at the desk didn't speak English at all, I had to use Google Translate with then. We drove 4hrs from Sofia to get to the place and once we got there, I was looking forward to see the drawings done by the Prehistoric people and they told me that they in particularly were closed off due to it being a UNESCO site. I said to them it doesn't make sense but after a 4hr drive I just wanted to see the cave.
If you are afraid of bats, no guide will tell you that once inside, the passage to go through, you will find bats (asleep) just centimeters from your face.
If you can't walk a lot, there are steps and steps and more steps going down and up with passages were you need to lower yourself to get through.
It is a different experience but I prefer the Hypogeum and the Temples in Malta.
Also the place is wet, when you hold on to the railings, keep a wipe and don't touch your face as they will smell of rust

Cannot give 0. We planned an international trip to finish up here on our way home just for the paintings. On previous visit we missed the guided tour and wanted to see the paintings which cannot be visited since 2019. The parking is paid and tickets are overpriced for actual service. Also plan to pay extra 2lv for the return trip from the exit if you get the train.

1/5 only because cannot put 0. Highly disapointed by the attitude of the employees, very rude and unwilling to perform any kind of service. You will NOT see the paintings as largely advertised on their posters. You will potentially wait 2 hours as there is no predefined schedule of visits. Price is very much overrated.

No cave paintings are visible since years already, even though they advertise with it everywhere! Also no information about this can be found on the website! Also no information about the time tables cam be found. We had to wait almost an hour for the next tour.
The staff is very rude, doesn't speak English at all and the cave is overpriced for Bulgarian standards.
I'd highly recommend to NOT go here. Especially since thre are plenty have great alternatives in the area.

After many years of traveling, I have never given a bad review to a tourist site before, so this is my first. It is motivated by the sheer disappointment that the primary reason for visiting the caves, ancient cave paintings, is locked away from visitors who pay their money to see them.
There is a chance that Magura Caves could be a sight of cultural significance with this 12,000 year old rock art. We could not know. According to our guide, that section of the cave is closed, but for all we know, it may be permanently closed. Of cause, when we bought our tickets no one told us that this section was closed. They know that if they did, we wouldn’t have paid and would have gone straight back to Belogradchik. There are stalagmites and stalactites throughout the cave but most are minor and/or dirty from poor conservation and not particularly interesting. Two of them are large but not worth the visit on their own.
The pavement and steps in the cave are very slippery and I slipped and fell on the rocks twice, luckily without injury. Others did not fall but this did result in us of all being super cautious with every step. As a result, I really only saw the ground where I put my feet. Others seemed to have the same experience. In the 1.8km walk inside the cave, we stopped briefly twice, once to see a group of 20-30cm high stalagmites that resembled a city on a hill (30 seconds) and once to look at a flying bat (15 seconds). Occasionally I stopped for a second and lifted my head enough to see what was around me but otherwise we were required to keep up with our guide, who never seemed to stop walking and look at the ground to see where we stepped.
Our guide spoke in Bulgarian to the family at the front of the group but the Bulgarian family at the back of the group would not have heard what he said. He made no attempt to present information about the cave to the whole group. Both we and the Spanish couple in front of us understood nothing and the guide made no attempt to explain anything to us. It was clear to me that our guide simply wanted to walk through the cave as quickly as possible, so that he could do something else with his time.
The visit took several hours out of a day in Belogradchik. Firstly there was the 30 minute taxi ride to the cave, a 45 minute wait for the next guided walk, 1 hour of looking at our feet in the cave and finally a 30 minute taxi ride back to Belogradchik. Almost 3 hours of our day and 65lev to see nothing of any great interest. If I could give it no stars/circles, I would.

Hi Bryan
I’m not sure where you have been seeking information other than on TripAdviser. That section of the cave was not open when I visited last summer . My review of the caves is available on TA. I doubt that the caves administration would tell you. Their priority is revenue, not customer service. Unless you have other reasons for travelling to Belogradchik, I would seriously consider using that time elsewhere. It’s uncommon that I suggest not going somewhere but while the castle and rocks are nice enough but I wouldn’t travel to Belogradchik for that alone. I wouldn’t suggest wasting your time and money in the caves, if the paintings are not accessible. The caves are otherwise disappointing The stalactites and stalagmites are dirty from pollution and poor conservation. Lights seem to be left on between tour groups, leading to algae growth that should not be there. Because the paths are wet and slippery, I spent the whole trip looking at my feet, having fallen over twice. If you do choose to go, don’t carry a rucksack. It makes walking difficult on the slippery surface. I’m happy to help if you have other questions.

There are nice rooms with Swiming pool 300 meters from the cave entrance, with nice resturant, better to parking there than in Cave parking.
