It only takes a few minutes to fall in love with Sam A. Baker State Park. The cool waters of the St. Francois River and Big Creek frame a wooded setting with trails that range from easy to challenging. Ancient mountains, towering trees, and fresh air are hallmarks of the park. Rustic cabins, a campground, a separate campground for equestrians, and a store are also features of this scenic park.

Being new to the area, I thought Missouri was all plains with mountains in a distant place. But wow was I wrong! Just an hour or so away was a rigorous hike up a picturesque mountainside. The fire tower trail was rocky and strenuous and...More

There are some areas usually where water is shallow and calm that they can play but like others said check with ranger--he will know for sure
