Amazing tour to visit the world famous Gishora Drum Performance! The highlight of my trip to Burundi. The sound and dancing was incredible. We also visited a local market, ate barbecue and drank homemade beer. My guide George works for the Burundi Tourism Department and was fantastic. I highly recommend sending him a WhatsApp +257 79937104

One of the best cultural ceremonies we have ever been to and not gimmicky at all! It is a little expensive but totally worth it. For those visiting Burundi, we also have written a really comprehensive blog post (link in our profile bio) of things to expect - very interesting for first time visitors!

I wasn’t sure that a drumming show could live up to all of the rave reviews. It clearly did for me. I would consider it the top attraction in the area. Highly recommended.

A wonderful experience. Try to go with a native speaker, as the tour guide spoke only kirundi. With no apparent set times for performance, they beat a drum to gather the drummers from their surrounding homes while we got a tour with history. The show itself is about 40 minutes fast paced and beautiful. Would have enjoyed performance without translation, but again having a native to translate a little that they were singing about the history was nice.

Worth the whole trip to Burundi to see this performance. These people are true professionals and have great talent. It was the best thing in Burundi and we were amazed at how long they performed and we were the only 2 tourists. The whole village shows up to watch and they seem to really enjoy what they do.

BB Travel and Jeffrey Travel arranged for me to experience the Gishora Drum Sanctuary. I’ve been to cultural shows in 150 countries and I have never seen one more impressive than the Gishora Drum Santuary. As my guide correctly said: “If you go to Burundi and don’t see the drummers - you have not seen Burundi.” So true.

This was the highlight of the trip in Burundi. The dancing and music lasted for approximately 40 minutes, and it was fantastic. It takes a while to reach from Bujumbura, but is worth it.

If you are in the Gitega area take in a performance by the Burundian drummers situated on a hill in the village of Gishoro a few miles from Gitega.
About 30 folk in the troupe including a few young kids.Absolutely fantastic rhythmic drumming and dancing all dressed in traditional gear.
As tourists, you have to pay but all the locals come out to watch.
At the end you get to have a go on the drums.
Performance lasts about 30-40 minutes.
There is also a small open air museum and a ceremonial drum that is never beaten.
Superb entertainment.
Be aware we found it very difficult to book this,as there is no website.

Its a blessed place with scenic beauty all along the road along with lake Tanganyika ...and if u r adventure seeker there is a small village of fisherman , with a little knowledge of french and some money you can actually ask him to take you deed inside for fishing , the pizzas are just awesome yet your Indian palate needs to take a rest as all things add to Peeri Peeri ( chilli)
