About
Walt first came to Marceline by train when he was five years old. The Santa Fe train arrived at the depot that preceded the present-day one, which was rebuilt in 1913. When Walt returned to Marceline for the first time in 1946, the depot evoked his first memories of pulling into Marceline. So it is fitting that the museum dedicated to one of the most influential persons of the last century is housed in this restored Santa Fe Depot.

- MAP12New Orleans, Louisiana632 contributionsWorth a stopI'm a Disney fan, so figured we'd stop since we were in the neighborhood. It was well put together and a good look at Walt Disney's hometown. Worth a stop if you're close.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 10, 2023
- Erica DSalt Lake City, Utah342 contributionsLittle bit of Disney in MissouriJust wow! So much to see and experience at this museum. Lots of videos and memorabilia documenting Walt's life in Marceline and the lasting impact it had on his life. There's so much to read in the letters to see how close the Disney family was. Well, well worth the stop. Make a pitstop at the Marceline Cafe to fuel your visit with caffeine.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten November 7, 2023

We spent two hours and probably could have spent a little longer. A great stop when traveling, as we are, from Hannibal to St. Joseph. The staff are warm and welcoming. - Sarah RIllinois9 contributionsCharming and Delightful! We stopped here on our way out west. It was such a delightful museum. As big WDW fans, we found the museum to be charming and informative. Would highly recommend to any Disney Fan. Of note, the lady working there was wonderful. I feel bad I don't remember her name, but she was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back to enjoy the town a little more next time.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 5, 2024
- ChaddyHighland, Indiana159 contributionsA Visit To Learn About Walt, To Not Appreciate Him Would Be Like An InsultI landed in the area of the Walt Disney Hometown Museum and wanted to experience it. I came seeking history and that’s definitely what I got. The entire area surrounding the building was welcoming. I was impressed right away! I came here with my significant other and her service dog. I paid Admission for Adults • $10.00 and that was a great price in my opinion. During my visit, I learned a lot about Walt Disney and his family. He definitely had a productive childhood. The information and history kept flowing throughout my time here. My favorite part was the stairs leading up to the second floor with words from Walt Disney. I feel that was a unique feature that they had. Before we exited the building, we looked at what they had for sale near the entrance. I ended up getting a Pen for $3.50. It was a reasonable price. They had the Rush Johnson Memorial Garden outside of the building. I walked around it before I left. It was cool to check out. The customer service was good. I didn’t have any issues. Overall, it was an amazing experience, especially for the price it was. I’m glad I went and I might even go back again someday. Must be a Disney fan first. This museum was amazing. This place tells the story of Walt Disney and the person he was. He really loved the people and the town he grew up in. They have a elevator so strollers or wheel chairs are not a problem. After the museum make sure you go to the barn and the area where Walt lived. You can also purchase a brick to put out side the front way. $125.

Unlike the Disney Family museum in San Francisco which covers Walt's career and accomplishments, this small hometown museum in Marceline's restored train station concentrates on Walt's childhood home of Marceline. The docent gave us some general information, then set us off on our self guided tour. There are video story stations set up in some rooms showing stories of the Disney family as told by locals who knew them well. We particularly enjoyed Walt's home coming videos of 1956 and 1960, when local boy makes good. Of course there are artifacts of the town and Walt's interactions. One room has a collection of Disney items contributed by Disney collectors. It was fun touring the museum and town recognizing this is where Walt's talents and aspirations were developed. Having been to the Family Museum and both parks, we feel that Marcelene's museum gave us a sense where it all started. Of course there's a nice selection of gifts to bring home - a great shirt and Hometown pin was acquired by this fan!

Definitely recommend a trip to Walt Disney's boyhood home of Marceline, MO.
We were excited to visit the Walt Disney Hometown Museum, and we were not at all disappointed. The museum was larger than expected and contained room after room of amazing artifacts, memrobila, but most impressive was the vast array of Disney family information that provided so much insight into what was to lead to the creation of "The Happiest Place On Earth"! Disney faithfull must make an effort to visit Marceline and the museum.

Marceline is a small town and the Walt Disney Museum was very easy to find. They have very convenient hours and are actually open on Sundays from 1:00 until 5:00. They also give a veterans discount or a seniors discount if you ask. Seeing all of the displays and reading the placards on everything made me appreciate what Walt and his brother Roy did to make the world a better place.

Honestly not a huge Disney fan (at least not new Disney) but decided to stop here on my Missouri road trip anyway. I love history and I thought it would be interesting to see where Disney came from. I was surprised to find such a well done museum about the Disney family. I was expecting more Mickey Mouse stuff - there was some memorabilia but it was not focused on it - and was pleased to find out it followed Walt and Roy Disney more then anything. I’ve never known much about the Disney brothers and their family. Even though Walt didn’t live in Marceline long, everything provided by the Disney sister and the recurring visits to Marceline after their success, show how dear this town was to the Disney family. It truly felt like like they loved this small town and it was refreshing to read someone’s love for their home - it really seemed like love letters between Walt Disney and Marceline, MO. Plus, the staff was super nice and gave me a thorough explanation of where to go after the museum visit!

You come to this museum because you’re a fan of Walt Disney - and it lives up to its reputation! Housed in an old railroad depot, there is history of Walt’s life in Marceline and his family. The best part are the friendly people who are running the museum. Highly recommend!

This museum has been on my list of places to go for a while as a Disney lover. Small museum, but lots of neat items within, friendly staff and the bonus of meeting an older woman outside in the garden that actually knew Walt himself. Took maybe 45 minutes or an hour to explore. There is a cute little park right beside the museum as well. We, also, made a stop at the farm site which is really just a marker for the dreaming tree and then a barn. Inside the barn you could sign the wood with sharpies which was a fun touch.

Not for everyone.Casual Disney fans will be bored quick..Hardcore only..Lol Seems like a world class collection of Disney memorabilia though.Main Street USA is very small ,and doesnt look like much.Kinda laugh at the NEW Dreaming Tree.(real tree struck by lightning)Miracle acorn grown for NEW Dreaming Tree.lol Disney lived there for less than 4 yrs as a child.Seems contrived and woe fully under done(Main Street USA )Hard Core Fans will love the Museum's Collections and super. Tour guides.OVERALL. seems like a Hardcore fan will lick up the contrived schmutz..

Can one just drive up to see the dreaming tree and barn at any time or is it by admission at certain hours? I see the museum isn't open until 10 am so I'm wondering if we can go by some of the other attractions in town ahead of time.
Written July 10, 2017
There's no admission to see the barn or Dreaming Tree, and no specified hours that we saw. The family that owns the farm welcomes visitors and is happy to have you--just keep in mind that they live in the Disney house on the property when choosing your hours to come. :) (The house is private and not open to visitors. They do welcome you to take pictures from the street though).

It looks as though there were reviews during the Dec-Feb time frame, but the museum says it is closed from October through April. Are those new hours or are they actually open during the winter season?
Written February 12, 2016
This is a museum run by volunteers who love what they do..They are closed every Oct to May. in the winter, which can be harsh here. I visited in Feb but was given special permission while the museum was undergoing restoration , as I and my cousin worked for Disney. and I wrote letters several months in advance... Plan to come in the spring/fall
