Stern Winery
About
Stern Winery is a family owned Galilee boutique winery, located at Kibbutz Tuval. Johnny Stern founded the Winery in 2004, a wine lover who decided to follow a dream and create fine wine with a personal touch. The Winery produces approximately 24,000 bottles of wine a year from grapes harvested at quality vineyards in the Golan Heights and Upper Galilee. The winery is characterized by the close relationship of the Stern "family"- a large group of friends, relatives and acquaintances who join in to work at the winery from the harvest in the "hot" season through the "quiet" season. The visitor center is open on weekends (friday-saturday) from 10:00-15:00 and on weekdays by appointment. The tours are guided by the winemaker, Johnny Stern

We turned up with 2 young children who quite happily sat on a comfortable sofa and shared our cheese plate over some wine tasting.

The staff and the owner are extremely helpful and knowledgeable not just about their wines, but also the Israeli wine scene. We enjoyed a very generous 7 wines during our tasting plus a fortified wine, which was delicious.

Highly recommended as it was a lovely experience

We ventured up the mountain to the Stern Winery as it was the Sabbath and they were one of the few wineries in northern Israel that were actually open that day. I'm grateful for that because it was a really lovely tasting experience. The broad selection of wines covered was impressive. I enjoyed all of them and found a number to be really notable (enough to make me willing to ditch some gear and check my bags on the way back to the US, also noting that I'm not particularly a connoisseur).

It was a smaller group that day and it felt more intimate once we embarked on the tour and shared more conversation with Johnny and the other guests. Johnny was a superb host and we really enjoyed our time with him--he and his wife really made the occasion a memorable affair. Very satisfied to have managed to haul four bottles home with me. I would have taken more but I simply lacked the space.

I'll go back if I ever return to Israel.

NOTE: I'd skip Google's advise to get off the main expressway at Bi'ne to go up the mountain. Streets are a little confusing and harrowing (steep). The next exit (eastbound, exit to Kefar Weradim) is a little longer but much easier.

Staying in Karmon, we found Stern Winery, nearby. Johnny Stern, owner/winemaker was a joy to speak with. So, not only did we enjoy his fine wine, we had great conversation, as well. We had to buy a few bottles for ourselves, as well as gifts for friends. This was a great find. Johnny is happy to share his vast knowledge about the wine making process. Bottles are in the nis 90 range and tasting nis 30 per person. Try it, you'll like it!

We wanted to visit an Israeli winery. We recommend having a car - we took a Taxi from Nahariya - it worked out ok but I think having your own car and/or driver would be a good idea. Johnny was welcoming - he not only makes wine but does beautiful woodwork also. It was a very pleasant afternoon.

We had a great experience. The wines were phenomenal. The Rotem which is his Bordeaux blend was especially distinctive. It had great backbone, good body and layers of complexity. The 2012 is drinking well now and has many great years ahead of it. His 100% Cabernet Franc reminded me of a young Cheval Blanc. He is clearly a very talented wine maker and sells all of his 25,000 bottle production.

I visited with my family. We got a personal tour of the winery and a wine tasting (for the adults). The tour was very interesting and kid-friendly and the wine was excellent. Will definitely visit again!

On our trip to the western Galilee we stopped at Stern’s Winery.

The location is beautiful and the tasting room unpretentious. Our host Jonny is willing to share and discuss as deeply as one would want to go with a master vitner.

Before entering we came in with the notion of getting a bootle or two. We came out with 11.

The wines are all memorable. My favorite is Petit Verdot.

Went to Stern winery by chance and the owner greeted us with enthusiasm and friendliness. We learnt the story of his winery and then had a magnificent tasting of several of his fine wines at no charge . Left with a car full of several cases of wine . A must visit if you are in the area. It is better to telephone first as we did . I would recommend and return
