Explore a piece of America’s military history at Gen. John J. Pershing Boyhood Home State Historic Site and learn about the experiences that molded a Laclede country boy into one of the nation’s legendary generals. Pershing and his family moved into the nine-room Gothic-style house in Laclede when he was six. Prairie Mound School, where Pershing taught prior to his admission to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, is also on the site and includes a unique exhibit that allows visitors to pass through many of the same doorways Pershing passed through on his journeys from Missouri to Mexico and France.

This is a very interesting place to visit, especially if one is a WWI history enthusiast. You will find great guides and both Pershing's personal and war leadership history is very interesting. It's located in a small town in North Central Missouri.

This state historic site is a must see if you find yourself in northeast Missouri. There is a really great film about General John Pershing's amazing life. I learned that he was the ONLY general to be awarded six stars. His home was very nice...More

It's a very small run down town where the house is. Roads are mostly gravel or broken up asphalt. General Pershing was a go get 'em kind of General, so of course you have to see where he grew up. I live near here so...More

No, it's not Monticello, buy we knew that going in:) Pershing's home is an excellent example of an upper-middle-class home from the late 19th Century. The guide was great! We enjoyed our visit.

We weren't sure what to expect as it was a fairly small area; however, this site was excellent, informative, and entertaining. The site contains Pershing's old residence, a school house where the General taught before his military career, and an office area that was informative...More
