The cool waters of Forest Lake provide the centerpiece for Thousand Hills State Park, whose woody shores and broad savannas recall a time when northern Missouri was far less developed. The lake offers fishing, swimming and boating. The park offers hiking, mountain biking, and abundant opportunities to see wildlife. An interpretive shelter helps visitors understand the petroglyphs left behind by the area’s inhabitants more than 1,500 years ago. The park also offers campsites and cabins for overnight stays.

I hiked and drove around the park back when the lake was frozen over and lots of snow on the ground. Geese were on the ice and in the open area of the water not iced over. It was pretty kool that there were upwards of 400-500 Canada Geese when I visited. They have picnic tables, restrooms, and hiking trails:... More

We just had a quick walk in one area of the park but the cabins looked nice and the view was beautiful at sunset.

If you like water and hiking, this is the place to take the family! Nice trails, reasonable rentals in the warmer weather too.

I have enjoyed going to this state park since being a student at NMSU in the early 1990's. Always a great view and going out on the water is fantastic.

I have been to this park a couple of time for a couple different events and it is has been nothing less than perfect. The buildings, the park and the lake are always in good condition. Nice and peaceful.

The pteroglyphs were closed in the building. Nice cashier at the boat rental/store. Cabins looked nice, didn't go in. Good roads and good signage.

Went there to just drive by to check out some things we love it and ended up hiking the trails and picnic by thebeautiful lake! The kids love it that they don't want to leave! It was very clean very quiet and peaceful. The lake water was very clear unlike others! We are looking forward camping there this year!

Beautiful park, well-maintained yet primitive enough for hiking and enjoying native flowers and birds.
