Wow! This was our first escape room experience and I have to say that Breakout KC has set an incredibly high bar. The entire experience from check-in to check-out was superb thanks to our awesome game guide, Shawn! Four of us- two adults and two older teens played the Schezwan Secret. Mind you, we all have very different temperaments, skills and interests and still all had an AWESOME time! We used all three of our clues and made it out with just over a minute to spare. It was so neat experiencing the whole process unfold and how it required us all to employ different types of problem solving skills as well as teamwork to make it through. The room was truly so well thought out, both surprising us and challenging us along the way! All of the clues given by Shawn pointed us to exactly what we needed while still requiring us to use our own reasoning. I’m just amazed at the level of detail, skill, consideration and creativity that went into this experience. We hadn’t even made it out of the parking lot before discussing when we would come back and this time bring even more friends and family! I have a feeling Breakout KC has turned us into escape room lovers for life! All in just over an hours time:) Thank you Shawn and the rest of the team for an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to come back!!

I took my daughters and niece to the Leawood location. They are 17, 16, and 11. My 11 year old was hesitant when we first got in the room, but wound up finding 2 clues for the group! We did the Y2K room. We had a blast and the 90's nostalgia was pretty cool. The game master was nice and helpful. We got in our room right on time. We will definitely be back!

On a side note, there was a group who attempted to bring in 2 little kids in addition to an adult group of 8. They had booked a private room and had expected to bring in the children as spectators, free of extra charge. The rooms only hold 8 people, so members of the group had to leave while the rest stayed to do the escape. I don't recommend bringing toddlers or children under 10 to an escape room as you will be too busy finding clues that you won't be able to monitor your child appropriately and they obviously can't contribute to the game. Also, some clues may have small objects a child could choke on.

Let me say this was an amazing and fun attraction!! My only suggestion(really not a complaint but I’m picky these days) is some clarification on stairs and bathrooms... I’m physically handicapped and found when we got there we had not only a number of stairs to go do to our room, but also a very small space to get around(dont worry I assumed this and can walk some). Finally I would have been much less anxious prior to the event if I knew that I would have a bathroom to get to any time needed on the floor of my escape room as I have bowel and bladder issues that make it important if not just comforting to have that information for emergencies. Again, staff and experience was completely amazing, just throwing out some potential suggestions to help with those more inaccessible

There were 4 of us in the room. We all came together. There could have been 4 more individuals but no one else signed up for our room at our time. It might have been crowded in the room if there had been 8 of us.
We were given instructions and given plenty of time to ask questions, etc.
You have some control over how many and how often, you are given clues as to how to get out of the room you are in.
The entire experience was really fun.

The experience was very fun and entertaining. We went there for my daughter's 16th birthday. We did not escape, but maybe we will try it again someday. I wish I had confirmed the number of people attending because I paid for an extra person that did not show up.

We were in the “Raid” room and one thing I would change is that in the first room we were in the person on the television said make sure that nothing is plugged into the outlets. So my fiancé took that as a clue and unplugged the computer in the other room. So we had to wait on the staff to come fix the computer so that we could finish our game. Our time kept running on the timer even though we couldn’t play the game while the computer was being fixed. You should definitely change what they say in the first room to “ don’t plug your devices into our outlets”.
This room is definitely not kid friendly. My 10 year old was scared to death for days after going through it.
The actor Xan was amazing though and it was an overall good experience.

Hi! Val here, general manager of the Breakout KC River Market location. Thanks for your review and for letting us know what we can do to improve. In the intro video, Dr. Mortimer does say "there should be or will be nothing plugged into electrical outlets." We mean this to be understood as "you will not need to plug anything into electrical outlets." We haven't encountered this issue before but after rewatching the video, I can understand how it could be interpreted as "nothing should be plugged into outlets at all, including items you encounter that are already plugged in." We plan on changing the wording in the video. Thank you for pointing this out! I am sorry to hear that your child was scared by the room. In our terms and conditions we do mention that The Raid is not recommend for children under the age of 10, but I understand that this age range may vary based on the individual child. I am glad that you had an overall good experience! If you all would be interested in coming back for another room, know that all of our other rooms are considered kid-friendly. If you would like, please use the promo code "back2back" for 20% off. Thank you!

Really nice escape rooms. I've done three at this location, and enjoyed all of them. Do a good job making puzzles that can be solved concurrently so everyone has a good chance to work on getting out. Our room guide Shawn did a good job of explaining the rules to us, and was super helpful when we asked for hints.

Only downside to this location is parking can be a bit hard.

Our family has become addicted to breakout rooms. This was our 7th together and first one at Breakout KC. We all agreed that this was our favorite so far. The storyline and clues were well designed and connected. There were many clever twists and turns and well placed red herrings to throw us off and keep us on our toes. The room and clues were engaging and hands on. Overall an excellent experience and everything we had hoped for and have come to expect in a well designed escape room.

First off, I did my very first Breakout Experience with Breakout KC and I have done almost every room they got. The staff is friendly and helpful and they feel like a cheerleader in the background. The rooms are well thought out and the puzzles are just hard enough to really make you think. Every time I break out of one of these suckers, I feel like I just won a triathlon. Favorite escape rooms in KC!

We actually did back to back days of different rooms with my twins (boy & girl) to celebrate their 12th birthdays. We thought it would be a COVID safe way to celebrate, since we would be isolated with people in our social bubbles.
We let them each have a separate party with a few friends and had a great experience each time. Both rooms were fun and challenging for the kids and kept them all engaged. We were fortunate enough to have Shawn both days, and he was amazing! He was very helpful with hints, and kept us moving forward with the challenge of younger participants. Overall we had a great experience and will definitely go back again. The only issue we had was trying to find parking one of the nights, but we planned accordingly and won't let that keep us from going again.
