I went to a Home Free concert here on Dec 1, 2022. This is a great old Art Deco style theater. Beautiful decor and superb acoustics. They just don't make them like this anymore.

Attended a concert at the Uptown recently and had a great time.
Parking in the area seems to have gotten better recently, due to some neighborhood updating and revitalization. However, to avoid needing to search, we used Lyft. I think a little research would reveal a good amount of nearby parking.
Security magnetometers were set up on the sidewalk for a quick scan. A lengthy list of banned items was okay by me - no issues with my wallet, keys, and phone.
Drinks available from the bar. I think there was one in the lobby and another in a side lobby near the restrooms. Our show included a merchandise table.
Theatre-style seats in the back with cupholders. We were further up front (Row M). Though they are the temporary type, they had comfortable cushions and the seats folded up to make accessing the row easy. Best movable seating I've enjoyed in a theatre or hotel ballroom so far. We were comfortable for the whole show.
The interior is that fun, gaudy, restored old theatre. There's a balcony and side entrances. The house sound was more than loud enough. As I get older, I might take ear plugs or EarPods with sound level control next time.
Plenty of friendly ushers to help everyone find their seats.

Such great acts in a beautiful venue...but too many negatives! The last two shows were bait and switch on our tickets. 1st time we paid for front row, then the theatre decided to put 3 rows of folding chairs in front of us. Those people stood up the entire time. So not only did we have limited leg room, but our view was 100% obstructed. We bought front row as I had recently had back surgery and could not stand the entire time so thought this would be the best way to see my favorite bands. Seemed very greedy and wrong of the venue to add those seats.
We had tickets for an event this weekend. Close table due to social distancing seating from a prior postponed concert. The theatre moved everyone with prior seating to the back of the theatre, and sold VIP seating in the exact spot our tickets were for. We were so far back that the show lost its magic for us....and we had tickets for over a year. Terrible way to do business and we will never attend another event there!
Parking is a nightmare as they sold their parking lot to some apartments/condos, so now everyone just has to find street parking in the neighborhood, where the residents are not happy people are parking and the streets are very dark. Another sign of greed taking over from the customer experience, but this time it is safety.
Make sure to order drinks directly at the bar and watch them being made.
Such a beautiful venue, sad that they decided this is the way to treat guests.

On the evening of November 10 we attended the recent Monkees Farewell Tour as a birthday outing for a family member who is a big fan. What a great time! The remaining members of the band and their backup musicians put on a great family show, in this gorgeous historic theatre, which has been restored to what can only be described as a state of glorious overachievement! :)
Special thanks to Director of Events Ms. Alia Johnson for so patiently helping with the arrangements, and also a special thanks to "Mike The Usher In The Camo Ballcap" :) who did such an awesome job helping everyone find their seats in the happy chaos.
The place was absolutely packed for this event, and all the ushers and other theatre staff were on the ball and managed everything professionally, courteously, and cheerfully.
The entire place was so clean and gorgeous, including the restrooms, which were staffed by excellent attendants. They worked tirelessly keeping the place clean and the traffic flowing smoothly. You are all awesome.
Thank you all for helping to make this special evening extra happy for our birthday girl!
PS we can't comment on the parking because we used the awesome 5 Guys Transportation!

Great concert venue. There was not a bad seat in the house. I had a seat in the balcony and could see the stage very well.

I really enjoyed seeing Toto in this not so large venue but it would really be nice if they cleaned it up a bit. Lots of years of built up grime!

There were some problem with seatings. The usher asked us to see our tickets many times. I guess they tried to seat people wherever there are open spots.

I've been referred to the Uptown as an excellent party/rehearsal venue. My friend was insistent that I do my business with the father(owner?)/daughter(event coordinator). BUT....I've lost whatever junk mail envelope, or post-it, I'd used to record this 'wonder-team's' info upon (I admit - NOT my best judgement call, in hindsight!)
Anybody know to whom I was referred? You'll def make my Christmas card list!! (PLUS my eternal gratitude!!!)
Any & all ideas are welcome & HUGELY appreciated!!

Larry Sells is the owner...you can find him on linkedin. If you go to the website, you can request info on the theater venue. You may also want to check out The Madrid Theater.

What hotels are near by? Is the surrounding areas safe to walk around?

I stayed at the 816 Hotel. It is less than a mile from the Uptown. Across the street is the AC Hotel. These are the two closest to the Uptown. Then theres America's Best Value Inn and the Embassy Suites. Personally, I recommend the 816. Free drink tickets, a BOGO for a Westport Fleamarket Fleaburger-you won't leave hungry and the 816 shares the parking lot with the Fleamarket.
As to whether or not the area is safe to walk around. I wasn't worried about it. Crime happens everywhere. Just be smart and don't "look" like a good potential victim and you should be alright. If you are worried about walking around, the 816 has excellent shuttle service.
