About
Kaleidoscope nourishes the creative spirit. It is a place where all children and their families are invited to be creative, have fun, and feel good about their own special ideas. Provided by Hallmark Cards, Kaleidoscope is FREE! At Kaleidoscope, children use their imaginations to make art with materials from Hallmark’s manufacturing processes. Some are cut into shapes, while others are left just as Hallmark sends them. And Hallmark provides different materials so the projects are ever-changing!

Although this place is free, they recommend you book time online before going. Not knowing how our first day in KC would go, I didn't do this but luckily they had no-shows and let us in. My daughter is 10 and really enjoyed being here. There were lots of stations to create, color, cut, tape (my daughter LOVES tape...), a place to design a puzzle and then cut it into pieces, painting with crayola wax too. I didn't know it was timed, so before she did everyting, they said the session had ended and it was time to go. Each child gets a paper bag to put their arts & crafts in to take home. One complaint though - nowhere for the parents to sit. Would've loved some benches, as my daughter takes a long time coloring and creating and I would've loved to sit and enjoy the time there that way....But overall if you have kids, this is a great place to visit.

I've always heard about Kaleidoscope, but had never been. I figured why not go since it's free and I already had my kids for a day out in Crown Center. I had 4 kids with me ages 11, 6, 6, and 3. They got bored very quickly. The place looks cool, but there isn't much to do. There are scrap papers and markers everywhere. Most markers were dried out and there was only tape, no glue. The kids were looking to play and didn't feel like coloring. They liked the blacklight room and drawing with the light, but grew bored of that activity after about 10 minutes. We stayed for less than an hour. Luckily, it is free.

If you don't have any small kids of your own...grab your niece or your nephew and go experience this! This place oozes creativity and lets you run wild with your imagination! No matter how big you are...once you step foot here, you become one of the creative kids!

Love to take the grands to visit Kaleidoscope! Every visit to town they ask Tonga for a visit! They can explore their creativity, all the art supplies they could ever dream of!

A Hallmark classic. Has always been a wonderful place to take kids. Fosters imagination, and FUN. However, it is closing soon as Hallmark is cutting back everywhere.

1. It’s free, but you must have a ticket for every person. Plan ahead. If you must wait, they will send you next door to the Hallmark Visitor’s Center for a self guided walking tour.
2. Sessions are 50 minutes.
3. Kids will not use up any energy.
4. They can draw and create all kinds of fun stuff.
5. They give you a bag to take home your treasures.
6. It’s warm in the room you are in. They do have bathrooms inside.
7. You can park in the garage underneath, which is free on the weekends.
8. Kids ages 2-7 seem to enjoy it the most.

For 50 minutes, your child has the opportunity to experience art as they create what they want with all of the materials provided! There is even a hand cranked machine that turns the kid's artwork in to a puzzle! This is a colorful place where children explore and learn while parents and grandparents watch. This is a real gift to children and those who love them. We always make this a stop on our trips to Kansas City. You need to get a ticket the same day for everyone in your group and then be ready at your assigned time. Check the website for hours open and session times. Enjoy!

We live in a suburb of KC, close enough to go many times a year but definitely have to make a day out of it. This is free but the number of people in each session is limited. They give you a ticket for your time slot. Sessions are scheduled so you need to look ahead and the times they start if you don't want to wait forever for the next one. Session are around 45 minutes. Inside, its basically and art free for all. Different stations and activities. My kids of all ages love going here and all enjoy it. If you have the time definitely go. I would say 2 1/2 and older because under that age won't be able to do a lot but can still go. Great place and we love it.

Among a number of other kid attractions in and around Crown Center, this one is really great. About 45 minutes of fun art projects and... it's free! Very nice staff as well.

We’ve been several time and took family here this summer. Five kids (ages 3/4/5/6/8) and everyone had a blast. 45 min to create, paint, color cut and glue all types of arts. Friendly and helpful staff, clean (surprisingly clean considering how many kids come through each day) and free. So thankful for this gem at Crown Center

Good for 10-11 year old boys? Or would they get bored quickly?

The place is great but I think boys that age would get bored quickly.
What are the hours?

Hours are different each day. They open session times rather than keep the facility open during all day. I can't post a specific website address but search for hallmark kaleidoscope calendar and you ought to find their site. You'll find general information and if you click on the calendar or hover on a specific date you can see the session times. Good luck and enjoy!
Can just adults go to this place or do we have to have kids?

The website says "no", however if you arrive plenty early, a staff member may let you peek inside (with the staff as an escort).
"Kaleidoscope is designed for children and their adults. If you’re visiting without children, when you arrive in our lobby, please ask if a Kaleidoscope staff member is available to provide a quick look of the exhibit for you."
Do you have to get there at a certain time to get in free?
