About
THE BASEMENT is an escape room venue with two highly-immersive escape room experiences. You will be locked inside one of these rooms for a designated amount of time while you and your team try to figure out how to escape. The room contains clues, trap doors, and hidden items. Anything that’s not glued or bolted down can be moved and may be an integral piece in your quest to escape (and survive).

- AllisontravelgangParkville, Missouri22 contributionsFun room!Thoroughly enjoyed this room and the vibe in the entire facility. Can't wait for their new room to open in January. Our live actor did a great job and stayed in character the whole time adding to our game rather than distracting which can happen with an actor in the room.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 8, 2023
- Passenger569803099491 contributionBest time for that extreme experienceThis was the best thing for a family outing, plus we had lots of fun. We celebrated my grandsons birthday, and had a fabulous time. This makes you think, second guess yourselves, and just simple clues, and you can get through it. Plan on making this a yearly outing. Great job, loved it!!Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 27, 2024

- Meander623155846591 contributionTerroriffic fun and incredible staffFirst time at an escape room and it was a lot of fun. The worker at the desk was great keeping in character and not breaking the immersion. The actor in the room made the escape more tense when you could hear her moving in another room out of sight. After my group finished the actor and desk worker were nice enough to give us some recommendations since we were on vacation from out of the state.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 27, 2024
- Lori R1 contributionThe best we’ve done. This escape room is so much better than others that we’ve done. It’s more creative, interactive, and immersive. We thought it was going to be scary, but it was just creepy enough to be challenging. The actor and the hostess were awesome! I wish they had more rooms to do. If you’re thinking about doing it, just go for it! You will not be disappointed.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 29, 2024
- Kimberly E1 contributionDon’t pass up on this fun, thrilling experience!!By far the best escape room experience! Creepy, yet exciting scenario that keeps you thinking and on your toes. We did not come out “alive”, but that’s ok! The staff was amazing and the live actor “Alex” was incredible! Definitely recommend this experience to people passing through town and locals looking for something fun and different to do!Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 14, 2024
- Erin S3 contributionsAwesome experience—highly recommend!!Top notch! Staff stayed in character entire time and nonchalantly helped out when we’d get stuck. Although intended to be in a scary bloody basement, it’s super clean….never felt like we couldn’t crawl around to look for clues. Had a blast!Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 7, 2024
- Justin P3 contributionsWe had a blast! It's such a unique experience!I've been to a handful of escape rooms but The Basement KC is truly unlike any of the rest! We've done a couple different rooms (escaping 1, "dying" in the other) and the second time was even better than the first-- I'm excited to try the next room they come up with! Pros: (FYI, don't look for the cons list next, there are none!) • The staff; they are top notch! Extremely professional and from the moment you arrive they are playing into the theme of the rooms. I initially was nervous about this being an"interactive" room (ie characters are within the room(s) with you) but it is all part of the fun and, again, they're extremely professional! • The detail of the room; I'll keep this brief to prevent any spoilers-- just trust me, this isn't a thrown together room, its legit, very well thought out and executed. • Fun for all ages; my wife & I took our son (15) and daughter (16) with us and they had a blast and were able to participate more than I thought they might be able to. However, I would suggest going as a larg(er) group-- they allow up to 8 per group (I believe). It was fun for the 4 of us, but the additional hands (and minds to solve puzzles!) will come in handy! • The cost; Having done other escape rooms, they fall pretty much in line with the standard. Trust me, its money well spent for the unique experience that you'll be telling all your friends & family about! Suggestions: • Get there EARLY; They suggest 15 minutes, I'd suggest 20-25 min. This will give you time to get prepared, staff to go over rules, have you fill out consent forms, etc. We got there on-time (which is late) and this ate into our time to escape which hurt us-- trust me, you'll need every minute to get out! (By the way, the forfeiture of time is understandable, of course, as they have a schedule to keep!) • Wear comfortable shoes; this might be common sense... but our son wore sandals and kept sliding out of them as he was running around. I'd suggest wearing a pair of laced tennis shoes. Overall, if you couldn't tell from my review, The Basement KC gets a 10/10 from me! Whether you're a local to KC or visiting from out of town please take my word for it and check them out! (P.S. Tips are welcome, not required, however, I'd strongly urge you to consider throwing the staff a couple extra bucks if you're able. Again, they do a fantastic job!)Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 31, 2024

This was the best escape room I have ever been to! We will definitely be coming back to try The Study next time. Everyone in our group loved it and the live actors really added something different that no other escape room has. Definitely recommend it!

We have now played both breakout rooms (The Study and The Basement). Here's a breakdown of both rooms.
The Study: this is a mild creep factor room (2 out of 5). Much less intense experience compared to The Basement). The puzzles that you solve range from easy to somewhat complex, but not the most difficult puzzles I've experienced compared to other escape rooms. This is a solid escape room that most families (friends etc) will have a great experience, as long as you are not a complete chicken 😬.
The Basement: this was my personal favorite of the two rooms. Much higher creep factor (4 out of 5), significantly better esthetics that add to the craziness, solid 'puzzles' that take creative thinking to solve, and a better live actor. I've escaped over a half dozen rooms now and this one is my favorite. It is not the most difficult one I've done but it was the most fun I've had.
If you have time to do both, it's worth it. I would do the study first, then the Basement (I know it's out of order for how they designed the experience, but you will be a little disappointed if you do the basement first then the study...it sets the Study up to be anticlimactic).
If you are only going to do 1 room..The Basement is where it's at!

I have experienced many escape rooms across the country. They are something my family highly enjoys doing together. The Basement was by far the best one we have completed to date. The room was challenging and the live actor took the experience beyond the rest we have done. 45 minutes went extremely fast. Your nerves will be rattled the whole time. I highly recommend.

Sadly disappointed. Maybe we weren't the quickest, smartest bunch but this escape room was supposed to have a live actor in it but not a single live person appeared in the basement. We paid regular price for a"live experience" but that didn't happen. When we played a similar zombie escape room in Houston there was a live person the whole way through. So, after 45 minutes and 4 rooms through, not one live person appeared. Just the host from the beginning showed up to help us exit. The host even said at the start the actor was taking a quick break and would be ready shortly so what happened? We were disappointed and are feeling jipped!

It was a really fun experience, the "performer" was amazing and the experience itself was so much fun! The only reason I gave 4 stars is because it was really hot in there. They definitely need much cooler air flowing through there. There was only 5 of us and I can only imagine how hot it gets when there are 8-10 people in there. It did not ruin the experience, but if I am being honest, it would have been much more enjoyable if there was some air flowing.

We've done hundreds of escape rooms across the country and were looking forward to a horror themed one. Ultimately we found it was overpriced and not worth it. Sound effects were too loud to hear clues or each other. The inclusion of an actor spoils the fun, take that aspect out and it might be better.
The room we did was listed as a 4 to 8 person room. It was a 2 person room max both in terms of physical size and complexity- most of stood around doing nothing because there wasn't anything to do solve.

OH MY!! If you want a thrill, and you aren't the kind of person who cares about winning...(because, let me tell you, this is NOT your easy, get-it-done, skipping kind of escape room). This is an EXPERIENCE!! The video in the beginning is HILARIOUS!! You are going to WANT to come back. An actual live actor was locked in with us. The time goes by quick...so, don't dwindle it!

We went with a group of 4 people since Covid. Because of Covid there were some minor tweaks to the game play that seemed a little obscure, but they make up for that with the live actors giving clues. Other than that it was a great experience! We had so much fun!

We've done the basement 1 and 2 before they moved locations and those experiences really set the bar! The original basement escape rooms were challenging, very spooky, and had such a genuine authentic feel to really wanting to figure out puzzles and escape.
This new basement "unhinged" escape room at the new location is basically a participation trophy. Some things we collectively did not like as a group; It's extremely short and their live actor basically joins you halfway through and gives you ALL of the answers. The beginning starts off with splitting half your group up which seemed fun and scary except the people that got split off have nothing to do but watch... that was absolutely terrible. Give us something to do for the love of god. Not just watch through a fence.
The live actor is a unique part of this experience and instead of being scared of the live actor, we literally felt like he was a friend and a part of our group by the end. No fault to him, he tried to stay in character but when this person walks around telling you to open this, put that in there, come this way, etc and essentially walks you through solving every puzzle... it just takes all of the fun out of it and humanizes the character to a friendly person.
Bring back the old basement escape rooms. Give us more time - 45min is too short, especially with someone just walking you through how to escape the whole last half - keep the live actors in character and give no hints unless the group asks for hints. Make it challenging again. Who cares if people don't escape, that's the whole point. This sucked and wouldn't recommend it. RIP to OG Basement.

My wife and I do alot of escape rooms and this one was significantly different and better. I was worried about the actor in the room being too much and it wasn't, it was just right with the amount of interaction. It was difficult but not impossible. Will be coming back to try the other room
