I arrived after dark and chose a Basic camping spot to park my van after completing the form at the Honor Camping station. In the morning I unloaded my bicycle and toured the park. I saw three other campers, so I can't speak to the park in the busy season. The facilities seemed to be in good repair and it... More

Went for a day hike. Nice hike, but nothing exceptional. We drove through the campgrounds looking for one of the hiking paths on the map. Found where it probably started, but no parking. Looks like maybe the hiking trail is pretty inaccessible except to the campers. The yurts looked intriguing. Do print out a map because GPS reception is spotty.... More

The cabin had a nice loft for the boys, the twin futon was fine for the wife and I. I would suggest to bring an air mattress, the futon was not as comfortable as it could've been. But then again I'm not really complaining. Lots of game and hiking trails. The campground is located on the bluff so to get... More

Mid October was the perfect setting and temperature for a stroll through the wooded trails. More often than not there were water views which were perfect for photographs.

For our trip to Lake of the Ozarks, we decided to stay at the cabins inside the park. We did this primarily because it was mid-October and the cabins come with both electric heat and, if you want, a wood-burning stove to heat the cabin. (It turned out we didn't need them because it was unseasonably warm.) There are a... More

We chose to hike the Lake View trail. The hike starts in the campground and encircles the campground. Easy trail but hard to find the trail head. Drive past the airport, look for the campground entrance the trail starts at the campground's check in booth. I suggest taking the north entry the south entry is a confused mess. Took about... More

We hiked the Lake View Bend trail which took us along the lake and campground. Some of the trail is rocky with elevation changes and some is across flatter terrain. Great hike and easy to follow the color coded trail markers.

Loved this campground though the tent sites were a little too close during a busy weekend. Plenty to do--hiking trails, swim beach, fishing, kayaking, horseback riding, playgrounds, etc. Very family friendly. Felt safe and the camp hosts were friendly and helpful.

We stay in the group camp Rising Sun for our family reunion every Labor Day weekend. It's always a great place to be and very affordable if you have a large group.
