Grand Falls is a river wide waterfall on Shoal creek just south of Joplin. Although only 12 feet high, it is almost 100 feet wide and considered the largest continuously flowing waterfall in Missouri. There is a parking area along Riverside Drive and a rocky...More

There's so much to love about this place! It's off the beaten path, so it's not overcrowded with tons of people. The people we did meet were super nice. The place is dog friendly. It's great for taking pictures. There were 2 Adirondack chairs on...More

Nice place to go and relax. Too cold to swim in right now but looks like it would be fun to visit in warmer weather. Wonderful area to take pictures. Rocks to climb on and a sandy little beach area.

A drive worth taking on an out of the way road. I took 32nd to Jackson. On the way, I stopped to admire the views at the low water bridge. The drive, with the creek peeking through the tree lined road, felt as if the city...More

Beautiful place. We have seen Missourian waterfalls on a tour and it would be rated 3rd best! It's a great place to take your family. Also a good place for taking family and senior pictures.

Not easy to find. No place to sit and reflect. No park-like sitting around the falls. Just falls. Nice to look at, but it's a brief stay. No picnic area. If you go up to the park, then there are picnic tables and places to...More

Grand Falls is gorgeous. The setting around it is great and it is secluded and quiet. It is easy to walk into from the parking area. A great place to relax and enjoy nature

This is the largest natural waterfall in the state of Missouri. The falls are beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. The rock formations are really neat. The falls change with the water level, so each visit is a little different. This is a very natural...More

Yes, take the off-ramp from I-44 at the Seneca exit. Turn left, south, and drive about a block. Take a right and follow the street along a creek. You will cross over if the water isn't high and then take a right. You... More

Calgary to Yellowstone (0 Replies)
Hi, Last September we did a 3 week trip Seattle, Yellowstone, GTNP, RMNP, Denver and home to UK. We caught the Yellowstone bug! But also enjoyed the road trips. This year we are flying in to Calgary 06 Sept and out of there 22 nights later. We start with an arrival stopover at the airport at next night at Grand Falls and then 2 and 5 nights in Mammouth and Lake respectively. So 2 x 5hr drives roughly. Our focus is on wildlife and scenery rather than thermals and long hikes. We have...More

Arizona Tour (1 Replies)
Hello! My family and I are travelling to Arizona at Thanksgiving 2018. We would like to get in as much as possible as well as hit a couple other states while were out that way. Things we would like to see are Grand Canyon, San Francisco Peaks, Grand Falls, Cathedral Rock, Devils Bridge Trail, Horseshoe bend, Antelope Canyon and the Four Corners Monument. How many days would you suggest taking in order to see all of these things? TIA

Book 2-3 nights at Sedona, 1-2 at Grand Canyon National Park and 1-2 at Page. The 4 Corners monument will require a full day from Page for a 3 minute photo op. It's a long way to go with little reward. IMO it's a total waste of time. You'll see the San Francisco peaks above Flagstaff as you travel to and from the Grand Canyon National Park. Grand Falls will probably by dry at Thanksgiving. The Little Colorado River is spring fed, but it's winter snowmelt and summer monsoon rains that...More

We are planning a day trip from Flagstaff to visit Grand Canyon Southrim followed by a trip to Grand Falls AZ. We will hit the various points of interest between Grand Canyon Village and Desert View and Exit out east to head to Grand Falls. Get back into Flagstaff by sunset. A few questions : 1) How is the road from GC entrance near Desert View to Grand Falls. 2) How much time should we budget for Grand Falls 3) We are not hikers by any means, and will probably do no more than rim...More

Grand Falls is quite remote with no facilities for meals, other than your prepared picnic fare. Plan to take a solid two hours to get there from Desert View. Last time I was there I watched a rental car arrive on 3 flat tires. I can’t imagine the time or expense in getting that situation rectified. Suffice to say, the last 20 Miles is a very rough Indian Reservation Road. Expect no cell coverage. That’s not to say you won’t have it, but I wouldn’t rely on it. As day trips from Flagstaff, I...More
