Mucura Island is located in Bolivar department, near to Cartagena city or Coveñas. You have to take a boat from one of this cities to go to Mucura Island.
I went to this Island last year to visit the Mucura Club Hotel, located in the north part of the island. There was excelent atention to visitors, the food was amazing! My favourite was the "ajillo octopus", I ate that with a local beer. In the hotel people can do kayaking around the island, it was incredible!
I liked so much this hotel due to there was a beautiful amenities, and there were helpful people. I recommend the hotel and the island, because there I let a part of me.

It is a very uniqueisland resort, it privately owned and maintained. You need to take a boat ride from Cartagena to get to it. It is highly recommended for honey mooners and couples. DO NOT TAKE CHILDREN WITH YOU ON THIS VACATION!
The food is really good, the service is good too. The night shows could be better, but hey...
The rooms are very nicely decorated and private.
The beaches have white fine sand and the waters are crystal clear. You can also take a walk tour to near by places and take lost of cool pictures.
Deecember is high season and it is hard to get a reservation so make them as early as possible.

We only stayed on Isla Mucura for 2 days but wish we would have stayed at least one day longer. It was the perfect place to relax and forget about the rest of the world for a couple of days. The staff was so wonderful and friendly ... I cannot say enough about the great people working on this island. The beach was small with white sand and clear blue water. Perfect! We spent most of our time laying on the beach or floating in the perfectly calm sea. We were told that they have tours to the islands nearby and other activities such as diving, snorkeling etc. but we did not do much other than read and rest. If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing get away - this is it.
A couple of additional points:
Food: Overall the food was pretty good. Breakfast and dinner were nothing to write home about but lunch was always fantastic.
Transportation: We were nervous because we were not able to find anything about transportation on the website (only on Trip Advisor) but there was nothing to worry about. We just showed up at the Hotel Regatta at 10:00 AM and a representative was there to greet us and confirm our reservation. A van transported us from the Hotel Regatta to the port around 11:00 AM or so. You have the option of paying for the boat transportation at the port or at check-out when you leave Punta Faro. We chose to pay at check-out. The boat ride is supposed to be approximately 2 hours but it took us a little over 3 hours because the sea was a little rough. It only took us 2 1/2 on our return to Cartagena but there was no van transportation from the port to Hotel Regatta. It would have been better for them to arrange to take us back to Hotel Regatta because it was very hard to catch a cab right outside the port entrance.
Language - We were nervous after reading some other reviews that we would not be able to communicate with anyone on the island because of our (very) limited Spanish language skills. We were pleasantly surprised that several of the staff spoke English very well and several guests were English speaking too.

It's a two hour speedboat ride, but this place is magical. It's far enough from Cartagena to not have touts. Facilities are rustic, but the locals are down to earth, and the beach is white and soft, the water calm.

If you've been in Mexico or Caraibian islands, this archipelag will dissapoint You. Isla Mucura has only one, tiny stretch of sand full of expensive dining shacks. The water has beautiful color but snoorkling is really poor ( dead coral, not many fishes). We spent there 3 hours and it bas enough time to swim but don't expect too much. Be careful choosing agency for this trip! Avoid Club Nautico Maradentro in Tolu. They sold us a trip to other island (Tintipan) recommending it's much better than Mucura but packed us to the boat going to Mucura! We found out from the captain of the boat after we got to the place. He couldn't change the route for us and adviced us only to make a complain after we come back. Owner of the agency ( on Avenida la Playa no. 11-36, in front of the place where the boats are leaving) wasn't there of course. He closed the agency and escaped 20 minutes before the boats were coming back. Better stay away of this place

Beautiful island that rivals any of the better known Caribbean islands. 2 hours by boat from Cartegena. Enjoy the most populated island per square foot near Island Mucura. Plenty of fish to see while snorkeling or diving.

We just got back from the island and 3 nights in Tolu. The island is beautiful and would recommend spending a night there because with the tour you only get 3 hours roughly to be there. A couple we went with showed up with no reservation and found something for around 170,000 pesos a night for 2 of them all meals included. We just wanted to go to Isla mucura but couldn't find a way just to see the island we had to go to some nature reserve before which was like a mini zoo.
On the island beware of people trying to rip you off, when we were about to leave a lady made us pay to sit at a table? We were not told this before but oh well. Bring cash with you to buy drinks and extra food, we had a nice lobster lunch for 25,000 pesos each.
The boat ride back was hell, the sea was really rough and the boat was catching air with water pouring into the boat. Just make sure your valuables are in something water proof.
Overall I really enjoyed the island however would recommend just staying in Cartagena and going to a island near there because The city Tolu is nothing special and quite loud.

We spent two nights here and wish we could have stayed four. It is one of the most beautiful places I have been and glad we decided to make this side trip last minute. Staff is very friendly, there are a decent amount of activities, and the food is good. The only negative thing I would say is that the dinners are not that great. I loved the options for breakfast and lunch but not the dinners. Nonetheless, it was extremely beautiful and a very relaxing time there. The water is beautiful and you get white sanded beaches (which you unfortunately do not get in Cartagena).

Went on a tour and loved it. It was the perfect Caribbean beach. If you do the tour get the lunch included because the price doubles if you buy it there.

I will finish a 10 day tour of Columbia on the morning of January 14th and would like to stay 2 or 3 nights on or around Isla Mucura - or someplace where there is good diving or snorkeling. Where can I get a list of accommodations? I would like to stay at Punto Faro resort but several booking sites show no availability before January 16th - too late for us. Can I email the resort? - can't find an email address. Are there other resorts on the island? I am from California and can't find much info on the islas del Rosario - even on line. Help?

Hola!
