About
Within the walls of this museum, the romantic history of Missouri unfolds. The building is filled with treasures of historical significance dating from the era of the Louisiana Territory. Spacious rooms are filled with antique chandeliers, rosewood and mahogany chests and settees, French mirrors and fine paintings. This is the only county museum in the country to display inaugural gowns of its state's First Ladies at times throughout the year. The museum is closed December 15 - February 1.

This was a great little museum. It contains many period pieces. The tour guide was the best part. She was fantastic!

Museum is closed until February 1. Their website makes no mention of this whatsoever. Drove here literally for nothing.

Happened upon the Cole County Historical Museum quite by accident. Had a guided tour by a retired school teacher who enthusiastically shared the history behind the exhibits and artifacts. Pleasant, informative 45 or so minutes.

I liked the house, Cole's Studio and the landscape. There is a movie documentary on Cole's life and paintings; and a guided tour of 50 minutes, where rou can also see a gallery with Cole's paintings, and his disciple Church

I was hoping for a nicer experience for the tour, but, the tone was set by the tour guide. She was not friendly and acted as if our group of 6 were an imposition. She could not even answer any questions about the displays.
I consider it a waste of time and money.

I love museums and Victorian history, but this place surpassed all my expectations. It's a cute house on a quiet street with a great view of the Governor's Mansion and the Capitol building, very conveniently located. The woman who gave us our tour was extremely friendly and VERY knowledgeable about the home/city and their histories. There are lots of very cool artifacts that one would not normally expect to see in a smaller, local museum. It only costs $3 for adults to get in and the tour is worth WAY more than $3. The paintings and furniture are wonderful, but I really really loved all the gorgeous historical gowns featured in their own room. Definitely come visit this place when you're in Jefferson City - it's a fantastic museum.

This museum is located in an historical building across from the Missouri Governor's Mansion. They have a collection of First Ladies inaugural gowns, a Civil war room, plus the parlor and bedrooms typical in the 1800's, The view of the Capitol from a third floor window is perfect for a picture.
