A little history lesson for my granddaughter

What a beautiful Capitol building both inside and out. The artwork is amazing. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Well worth a stop if you are in Jefferson City.

We toured around the capital on our own. We parked away and walked to the capital. Jefferson City is a beautiful place downtown. The grounds of the capitol are gorgeous!

Beware that the Missouri State Capitol is currently being renovated. It's difficult to find your way inside. We were unable to get photos on the stairs in the front of the building or of the outside of the building due to all of the scaffolding and fencing. The Missouri State Capitol building is very pretty inside. There are many beautiful... More

I have loved going to the Capitol since I was a child. I have been there several times. Loved going up into the dome. They do not include that with the tour anymore but you can call ahead and arrange to go up. It is well worth the trip. You and whisper on one side of the dome and they... More

Pretty consistent as far as state capitals go. Always recommend taking the tour as that helps take the info to another level. No dome tour and couldn't get into the senate, but plenty of other normal items to see. Make sure to check out the mural in the House Lounge, thought that was the best. Made it easier that the... This is an outstanding piece of art and architecture. The Thomas Hart Benton Murals are worth the trip alone. Beautiful murals in the hallways and coves too. I enjoyed the bronze busts of famous Missourians and the museum exhibit on the ground floor. There are many details to see and explore and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Recommended for the free Missouri State museum inside. Lots to see and learn. Also, the art work on the walls and ceilings is amazing.

Throughout the Capitol you witness Benton's muriels - before his time he painted 3D changing muriels. I strongly suggest taking the free tour so you know what to look for and where exactly to go. Going off season is best in one sense; but seeing in action is exciting too.
