About
The Urcia family surf school is based in their home town, the UNESCO World Surfing Reserve of Huanchaco, Peru. Established by professional surfers, the school teaches all levels, from beginners to advanced and competitive surfers. We provide surf lessons, one to one coaching, wetsuit and board hire and surf trips to other nearby breaks including Chicama and Pacasmayo. Surfing originated in Huanchaco with traditional reed boats, Caballitos de Totora. You can learn more about caballitos with us, take a caballito tour and even fish and prepare your own ceviche. Loved this little surf town, and loved this shop. Rent your boards and grab lessons here! The staff is super friendly and helpful, and they always had great advice for surf spots and conditions. Ask them about day trips to Chicama- it's epic!

I had such an incredible experience doing surf lessons with Urcia. They have a super sweet shop right by the beach at the best surf spot in Huanchaco, and are super reliable with communication, lesson times, and have really great prices. Doing private lessons I was able to advance quickly and improve :) Juninho runs the school with such care and is very welcoming, friendly, and a top level instructor.

School with the best instructors in town, very quality selection of boards too! There’s many options but for really improving your surf you should go here. They also have a great surf-focused hostel

These guys are amazing!! 6’7” and they took the extra time and effort to find me and my daughter wetsuits, booties and boards to fit. Super friendly, very informative and highly recommended!!! We were headed to Chicama and they even had contacts to help us out there!!! Gracias!! Another amazing part of our Peruvian adventure.

We had our very first surfing experience here with Juninho... and it was great. He and the whole team are very friendly and helpful. They speak English, which also helped a lot. We can wholeheartedly recommend the Urcia Surf School.
