If you like religious art this is the place to visit. They have interesting objects and arts from the colonial period exposed in a beautiful colonial house. Pictures are not allowed.

I was able to visit the collection after a brief wait for the director to arrive. Once I paid my admission, the woman crocheting a doily walked me through and gave me brief descriptions of the items and answered questions about the items. Viewing the collection in relation to both the size and history of Mompos is definitely helpful. For such a small community, the amount of wealth and resources required to procure some of these items really show how important and wealthy Mompos was in the past.

Upside, cost only 2000 pesos....so not much to loose.
Of course there is nothing else really to do in town, so if you feel you might be missing out if you don't visit this museum, well go for it...it won't take much time and it's not much of an investment.
After we paid the money, we just walked around. The museum had some empty rooms which had surely been sleeping quarters at some time in history. The only thing I can remember viewing there was a large clay vessel that was used to transport olive oil in the days of old...there was nothing else that I can even remember if that tells you anything.
If I had it to over again, I would just as soon skip it and Google Simon Boulivar and Mompox...sure to be more informative.

I dropped by around 11:30 on a weekday. I luckily didn't have any issues with finding it open, unlike another reviewer. The cost was 4,000 pesos.
The objects themselves were beautiful. The museum also has a bed that Simon Bolivar used in 5 of his 8 visits to Mompox. The atmosphere and presentation was informal, and the exhibits were humble in scale- taking up about 3 rooms. The lady in charge was sitting in the entrance and watching a tv program when I arrived. She got up and accompanied me, turning on the lights and fan in each room as we went through. She also gave me a brief description (in Spanish). No photography was permitted, which is just as well because the lighting was very dim.
The objects were well worth seeing, and I didn't even mind the bare-bones presentation. It's the kind of place that you either find charming or off-putting. I tended to the latter. It was uncomfortable that I couldn't really look at my leisure without being supervised. My guide was friendly, but I kind of felt like I was keeping her from her program. I made by visit brief.

We had some very knowledgeable guides who took us through a shot tour. The room where Simon Bolivar slept on a number of occasions was quite interesting, as we're the various silver items in the next room. Good value but not extensive.

There is only one museum in Unesco World Heritage city Mompos. Unfortunately it seems to be closed most of the time. I tried twice and as it was closed I decided to stay an extra day to see it. The next day I tried three times and the third time I managed to speak to somebody inside. He said it would be opened manana. But how many days do they expect us to wait when we are interested? So I had to leave without seeing the museum ...
