It was our first trip to Sayulita, and with all the different types of excursions available…we weren’t sure where to start. We’ll let’s just say that booking this Nayarit tour with Jorge was the best choice ever!!! We learned about the history of the local people and land, visited a few of the amazing hidden gems in the area and ate local food/fruit native to the region. Jorge customized our tour to make it an amazing and unique experience. He picked us (2 couples) up from our B&B at the time we set and provided breakfast at a local restaurant in his hometown of San Pancho. Afterwards he took us in his Jeep with his co-guide (his rescue dog Lola) to a hike through a jungle leading to La Pila Del Rey. Along the hike we saw some 2000+ year old Petroglyphs from the indigenous people of the land and ended with a nice plunge into the “Kings pool” to cool off. After a quick stop at a local fruit stand, Jorge took us to “Compostela Pueblo Magicio” a very scenic band tranquil waterfall. We ended our excursion with a visit to a private beach that we had all to ourselves. Jorge provided all the snacks/beverages we needed (and even trekking poles for our hike) and he was very accommodating to all our requests along the way. We were having some much fun that’s lost track of time and our 7 hour tour ended up being 12 hours long and Jorge never once made us feel any time constraints. DEFINITELY recommend taking this amazing tour! Thanks again for the amazing experience Jorge!

We had a fantastic time with Jorge AND Lola! They were the perfect hosts and I couldn't imagine exploring Sayulita in any other way.
We started the day with Breakfast. The food at La Taza de Cafe in San Pancho was the ideal introduction to the local cuisine. I recommend a licuado de platano.
After chowing we cruised to the beach to feel the sand between our toes and mingle with the street entrepreneurs selling handmade adornments at rock bottom prices.
Next stop, Buscerias for a 3-mile hike to Cruising some cold beverages from Jorge's never-ending assortment of refreshments. From

This tour with Jorge was one of the best tours I have ever been on! From the moment he picks you up and takes you to breakfast to discuss what you will be doing for the day, all the way to being dropped off exhausted, it was an amazing adventure. During the trip he has snacks, different kinds of beer, water, Gatorade, bug spray, etc. All the thing you will need while out exploring. He is very prepared!
Jorge went over all the options we had, showed pictures of places we could see, gave recommendations, and let us decide how the day would go. We wanted to see the jungle and explore the beautiful outdoors. So we opted to go to a waterfall, see the petroglyphs, and stop at San Poncho for dinner. There was no real time limit or schedule, we had Jorge for the whole day! :)
Jorge really becomes your friend and not some stranger from the very start. He is so upbeat and excited to show you his home. He has a great sense of humor and is just a fun person to hang out with. He loves Nayarit so much and it shows. He knows so much about this state, from the farms, economy, history, real estate, etc. He knew answers to all our questions, no matter how odd. haha We were so glad to see that he brought Lola along on our tour as well. She is such a good dog, we love her!
On our way to one of our destination, Jorge stopped to show us some local candies and treats. Coconut water straight from the coconut, tequila candies, etc. We got to taste so many and at no cost to us. It was part of the tour.
As we were heading to our last stop in San Poncho, we got stuck in traffic. There was a bad accident and we would be sitting there for an hour. We were hungry and Jorge recommended another spot for dinner not far. OMG, I am so glad he took us here. It was a little fishing town called Las Ayala and we had the best dinner all week! I highly recommend getting dinner at Restaurante de Mariscos Pineda. Great food, service, and views. :)
We finally make it to San Poncho after our dinner and just in time to watch the sunset on the beach and enjoy a beer before ending our time with Jorge. A quick little drive through Sayulita and we were dropped off back at our hotel.
Take advantage of this unique and custom tour of Nayarit. Its the best way to really get to know the area, people, culture, and see some gorgeous areas; all with a fun friend and his lovely dog. :)

It can be, or at least seem to be, a bit of a challenge going to a non-resort setting where you don't know anybody and are perhaps unfamiliar with the location but if you want to get off the resort and into authentic rural Mexico then all you need is a "guy". That guy is Jorge Mareno.
Absolutely top notch service from a great guy who knows the area, speaks Spanish and English very well and not only knows but LOVES the area and its rich culture and history. Jorge and his crew took care of all of our transportation needs, booked us on our Marieta's Island and hidden beach tour last minute and guided us to see amazing petroglyphs, incredible waterfalls, a private beach with sea caverns lining both sides and much more including an outstanding "roadside" feed of Oysters, Clams and ceviche at a local, authentic outdoor eating spot and a fruit stand stop including a fresh coconut and tasting a large variety of local fare. After drinking the coconut water it is then opened and scooped out and cut into strips which are put in a baggie and drizzled with sea salt, freshly squeezed lime and chili powder and they are to die for!!! The coconut is soft and almost gelatinous and simply devine as are the freshly made macaroons with local coconut and honey!
You simply won't go wrong having jorge customize your Nayarit activites to best suit your wants and needs!

The day was absolutely amazing. Jorje and Rene were incredible hosts. They are both very passionate about what they do. That passion is infectious and you can’t help but feel it to. My only regret is that we didn’t book them for the entire week.
We chose to go to the Alta Vista Petroglyphs and toured Jorje’s home town of San Pancho. It was a short east hike up a canyon with lots of rounded rocks. It was quite informative and we were amazed.
San Pancho is small town full of big personality. Lots of great shop, and restaurants. The beach comes alive for a second time for the sunset. Margaritas on the beach watching the sunset was surreal.

I’ve taken 3 excursions with Jorge and Nayarit Uncovered (and his dog Lola who is also amazing ☺️) - each adventure is just as amazing as the next. The whole trip is curated to what you and your friends want to experience and he will recommend different ideas based on what you want. It’s an authentic experience full of culture, and you can see some great off the beaten path BEAUTIFUL spots in Nayarit that you wouldn’t find on your own or with other tour companies. He only does unique private tours - I highly recommend Nayarit Uncovered - my friends hope to make a trip to Sayulita atleast once a year and take an annual trip with him if he’s not already booked :)

The day was amazing! I am a tour guide at a mountain resort and I know a great guide and a bad one. Jorge is top-notch and I highly recommend him. There were 11 of us and we are all adventure seekers and we were not disappointed. A full day of fun, sun, hike, boats, ruins, waterfalls jungles, fruit, and food. Jorge and his wonderful dog Lola are like spending a day with friends and I will definitely go on more adventures with them the next time we are in the area.
The hike was amazing given the waterfalls, jungle, and beautiful beaches but what made it so special is that my daughter's boyfriend of 11 years proposed to her on this amazing rock cliff overlooking the bay. Of course, Jorge didn't miss a beat and made sure to take photos and a video.
Jorge went above and beyond to make our trip fun and memorable and better yet, we feel as if we have a new friend who is a wonderful and kind human being.
A sincere thanks to Jorge and Lola...keep up the great work and come visit us if you want a ski tour of the mountains.

Having spent three weeks in total over three trips to Sayulita, this was the best day ever! Our tour with Jorge, Mauricio and Lola (the adorable dog) was a day we won’t forget. Exploring the petroglyphs with Jorge was amazingly informative in a beautiful setting. Jorge’s passion for sharing his knowledge about the history, culture and economy of the state of Nayarit was infectious. We saw places we would never see on a traditional tour, including small agricultural towns, capped off by a hike to a waterfall for a swim. Fantastic!! We will sign up with him again next time for a new adventure. Thank you!

This was one of the best excursions I’ve ever been on! Jorge was amazing!!! From the first email exchange through the time he dropped us off at our hotel, he was excited and energetic. This is a very personalized outing we love hiking and being outdoors. We went to the petroglyphs, waterfall, fruit stand and a Mexican holiday beach. Jorge was so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the region. His every interaction showed how passionate he is about the area. And sweet Lola was a great companion for the day.
110% recommend booking.

We did a day tour with Jorge a year ago. After having a delicious breakfast, we hiked to some archeological carvings and visited hot springs. He gave us a great experience that we still talk about. We stopped for an early dinner on our way home. He picked us up right at our hotel. What an amazing experience! His dog Lola is beautiful.
This year, when we decided to return to Sayulita to celebrate our wedding, we met up with Jorge again. He instantly became part of our family. He assisted with our day-to-day needs. He helped arrange and book transportation. He did a day tour with my parents, who loved their day of exploring local towns.
If you’re thinking about exploring the Sayulita area, definitely book a day with Jorge!

Hi I would like to book this for my family. We would be in town next week. How do I go about it? What’s the email?
Written July 4, 2018
Trip Advisor does not allow posting of the email, or the website to answer this question. However, if you go directly to the website and scroll down to the bottom of the page, there is an email stating with "info" if you email directly to this address you should receive a quick response from Jorge, or one of his staff pretty quickly.
If you type in nayarit-uncovered on google it is the second result.
Hope this helps! Have fun!

Hello, I have an 18 month old daughter would your recommend this tour? I also tried going to the website and it doesn't work.

The owner of the business is very flexible as far as the activities for the day. I probably would not recommend the hike to the petroglyphs if you have a young child. The hike is somewhat challenging, and the rocks can be slippery. I'm sure Jorge can suggest other activities for you.

Hello I have been reading the rave reviews from people who have been on a tour with Jorge. I am interested in booking one with him. I am visiting a friend in Tepic who is a resident here part of the time and Chacala the other part of the time. we have seen Chacala and Puerto V. however i am interested in seeing more like the countries waterfalls and lakes and lagoons also seeing more mexican culture . how do i book with your company and specifically tours with Jorge?
