Stopped by twice to this spot. The first time we drove, and explored the beach before visiting. (There's an old shipwreck not far from the brewery). The second time we arrived via bicycle from the town. (an easy and beautiful 45 min ride from town). We each had a tasting platter with 5 of the beers, along with a cheese... More

First, I must say that the location itself is a bit intoxicating, so it may have influenced my review, but I must say, I may have been one of the best all-round microbrewery experiences I have had. Also, my wife is Quebecoise and one of the bartenders is from the same town as my wife's family, so naturally he turned... More

We kept hearing about this microbrewery over the past few months and finally, during a visit to the Magdalen Islands, it was time to fully experience it. All the beers are a great surprise, one after another. From their classic "Écume" (slightly salty blonde) to the absolutely amazing, award-winning "Corne de Brume" (which was on tap that day!), we were... More

My husband and I are big fans of microbreweries, so we made it a priority to visit À l’Abri de la Tempête during our short stay on Îles de la Madeleine. We sampled every type of beer and were very impressed with the overall quality and range of flavours they produce. While no beer disappointed, we particularly enjoyed the Terre... More

Great visit here but as others have noted, it would be nice to have more food options available. The decor is really well done with many old beer bottles as decor in the main entrance area and the main bar area is quite nice. There is also an outdoor seating deck on the second story to sit and bask in... More

Found this microbrasserie after a long tour by GPS that took us a very long way around to it! It's not actually hard to find. The place is nice, the beers are very good, but the food offered too limited. It was a choice of three plates of 'tastes' of local cheese, meat or smoked fish - nice and quite... More

we were there in June 2012, driving along and there all of a sudden there it was! very original, and sat at bar and had a dark beer which was very good, excellent in fact. staff were friendly and it was once in a lifetime experience! the only thing a 6 pack of beer at the convenience store was $36.00... If I have my facts straight, A L’Abri de la Tempête is the only microbrewery on the island of Cap aux Meules. Considering the fact that it's the only brewery in the area, they could have given folks a few rickety stools to sit on and I suspect that there would be no lack of customers - Except they didn't....
