Very entertaining place with cafes, shops, and massive churches. A perfect place for a tourist interested in Religion. I recommend knowing/speaking some Russian to not get scammed or ripped-off. I also recommend buying the "church kvass".

I visited Sergiev Posad last weekend, what a great small city. This monastery and series of churches are lovely to wander around. Expect to spend 1-2 hours doing that. There are a few small stalls selling bread and pastries which you should try. Even on a Monday it was quite busy, so if you go over a weekend maybe arrive... More

I have visited a lot of churches and monasteries but this may be the best. It is alive with priests and monks plus lots and lots of ordinary Russians professing their faith. The are several churches, Trinity Cathedral, and Assumption Cathedral are the best but so much to see. Do not miss the healing spring where Russians come to gather... More

The trip to visit the Trinity monastery was one of the best experience. Train leaded to a small town that locate in small valley. Monastery was full of interesting building with stunning view and orthodox Christianity atmosphere.

Sergiev Posad is a little more than an hour away from Moscow. We were driven to Sergiev Posad by our tour guide so am not familiar with Train/Metro routes. Sergiev Posad, as we understood, is the Vatican equivalent for Orthodox Christianity. It is the seat of Orthodox Christianity. The use of gold, frescos, colour of the domes, the spirituality inside... More

This site is an amazing collection of beautiful churches; there is hardly much to add to the previous reviews. The architecture is dazzling and the grounds are peaceful. In addition this is a working monastery, so we saw lines of pilgrims filing in to pray at the relics of St. Sergius (a pilgrim choir was singing hymns as the pilgrims... More

UNESCO protected and pilgrimage site. Spaces filled with tourists seeking photo ops (me) and the devout filling buckets with holy water and kissing relics. I happily paid the 100 rubles to take photos but do know that you cannot take pictures inside all of the churches. If you can figure out how.......a picture coming into the monastery from a distance... More

Beautiful and peaceful monastery with amazing churches, dramatic architecture and beautiful grounds. The blue and gold domes are mesmerizing. The grounds are peaceful and the monks still roam the grounds. (and some delicious baked goods for sale.) Take the train from Moscow for a perfect day trip from the city. No need to book an expensive tour. Take the subway... More

The monastery in Sergiev Possad is a gem and males for an easy day trip from Moscow. It's easily accessible by train so no need to pay for an outrageously priced tour: read below on directions from Moscow. The monastery is a complex of two cathedrals and other church buildings. If it looks similar to the Kremlin, in a smaller... More
