The monument itself is much the same as many around Russia and the world: a guy on a horse. The view from the area is nice: looking over the valley.

There are 2 good reasons for visiting this place:

1. To acknowledge the statue to the towns founder, Prince Vladimir, in 990. This makes it one of the oldest towns in Russia.

2. To gain an appreciation for how flat and forest filled Russia is.

It is this latter aspect that should provoke you to think about why this land has not been developed for farming? Think of how extreme the climate is. Or is so hard to defend from invaders. There are few natural defensive obstacles.

We visited this monument and the surrounding area as part of a day tour of Vladimir and Suzdal with SuzdalGid. It's a lovely area and there are many places of historical interest within easy walking distance of here, along with fabulous views of the town and the river and valley below. If you're visiting Vladimir, you should definitely stop here. After all, this is a monument to the man after whom the city is named.

The large statue is located in the center of a park near to the two Cathedrals and the observation platform to memorize Prince Vladimir. You can take photos on all nice views over the surrounding valley and also stroll around the peaceful park if you have time to do so.

We walked in the area where the St Demetrius cathedral, observation platform, Assumption Cathedral and this statue were. You should go since it is close to other attractions.

The views are beautiful.

This statue is located in a nice park and near to a church. It is also a viewing point where one can see the surrounding valley. It's nice during winter when everything turns white.
