We ended up here after going to gorges verdon... What a hidden treat. Parking was all up a hill but keep going to the top and you find two car parks which are reasonable and the walk into the centre of the village is easy. The chapel at the very top is quite a hike but spectacular....the village has winding alley ways and streets, with a river running through the middle. It is really gorgeous and one of the nicest villages visited in provence. Beware the public loo.... Clean but no light, take your I phone in with you to see!!

Stayed in this beautiful village in June for three days. It offers splendid views with many activities in the surrounding area like hiking, para-sailing, lavender fields around the village (very popular with young women) etc.... During the day it is bustling with tourists arriving either in large groups or on their own, while after 19:00 only few remain in the village. It looks like the whole economy of the city is based on day-tourism although there are few vineyards around around it. There are few hotels and several restaurants that open mainly for lunch, many restaurants close several days in the week for the evening. We spent the days hiking in the area.
Our first encounter was with the hotel owner who mechanically showed us our room and barely spoke. Next came the owner of the cheese shop, she was very welcoming and helpful in giving us information about the village as well as several leaflets and a map of the village.
Many restaurants were closed for the evening and despite our apprehension due to negative reviews we opted for the "Cascade" restaurant where prices are high and the service and food were horrible to say the least.
Next morning we headed for the bakery, the owner did not respond to our greeting and barely uttered the price for what we bought. In the evening and again several of the recommended restaurants within the village were closed or already full, we ended up at "Etoile de mer": a net improvement from the "La Cascade", however the fish was overcooked and the thin lamb chops had 20% meat and the rest were bones and grease.
Early the third day we reserved a table at the "Treille Muscate" restaurant: service was very good and the food was of good quality. While having supper we chatted with a couple of Swedish tourists, they expressed several concerns on the hospitality and service they have received in Moustiers Sainte-Marie.
Clearly we had the feeling that many of the villagers are tired to cater to tourists while they are dependent largely on tourism?

Great view from the town, several good ice cream stores, lots of restaurants and one large supermarket and one small one.

My wife had the wonderful good fortune to be able to stay in this little village for a few days. Beautiful surrounding and great shops. We had several wonderful meals here also. It was the best in the evening when the tourist traffic slowed down. Such a peaceful and lovely place well worth the time to visit

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is a wonderful village built on the side of a lime-stone cliff, worth a visit if you are touring the Verdon Canyon.

We had a really nice experience, starting with the accomodation, the people and the food. End of the evening with a live show in the main square. Great ambiance, very very nice city, loved every second!

We'd read that this was one of the prettiest villages in France, but most villages in France seem to claim that. However, we really enjoyed this one. The whole village is built on a steep slope and most of the streets are on a slope and cobbled. There's a great church and of course, the great attraction is the church high up in the valley with a gold star hung from the cliff above which we decided to miss.
The village is indeed very picturesque and we enjoyed just wandering around. It's got lots of tourist shops and restaurants. We found a lovely little ice cream parlour in the shade where we enjoyed the most wonderful ice-cream.
The village is built into the narrow valley through a rock cliff and in the evening we watched the sunset reflected on the rock which turned it a glowing gold colour. The village had looked lovely during the day, but we felt this was it at it's best.
Parking is a nightmare so it's best to park in one of the car parks just below the town. It's also not a place that would be comfortable for those with mobility issues.
There's not a great deal of sight-seeing to do here, but it's a great place for a relaxing wander and lunch or ice-cream. We'd definitely go back.

Very picturesque little town, perched against the rocks, nice streets to wander through.
But almost impossible to find parking, especially during lunchtime.

This little town is great place for a day visit in South of France, not far from Marseille, it offers beautiful scenery, peaceful, a charm of history. Takes your time to walk around the town, enjoy the nature, visit local shops, they have all varieties of mountain herbs (precious gift for home-cooking), saucisson, pottery.

We weren't supposed to go to Moustiers.
We were driving the Gorges of Verdon and we had accommodation organised in another town.
We are so glad we changed that and stayed here because while we have seen so many of the listed Beautiful Villages of France, this one takes the cake.
The massifs that tower over the town, the split between them that looks like a rending of the earth, the crazy church built high up in that split, the waterfalls that cascade through the town, the tiny lanes, the steep hillsides the houses should never have been built on - it blows the mind.
Wow.
Go there!
We'll never forget it.

My husband and I are only stopping here for a day, and we want to make the most out of it! I wanted to know if it is easy to just walk around and explore most of the town, or are there maps or information that would be helpful?

Hi there ,
There is a tourist office right in the center square (as well as 2 very good restaurants) .
You can stroll around this pretty little village , or even walk up the steep path to Notre Dame De Beauvoir church and enjoy the beautiful panorama from up there .
For us , Moustiers was so calm and relaxing - that we stayed there for the night . Have a pleasant vacation .
