We spend the start of winter in moustiers every year.
Last year I climbed to the chapel six times on seven weeks. Not bad considering I am missing half a lung. Started with 10 stops for breath and got it down to 8.
Whilst, it's a bit of a steep (and slippery after rain) path to the chapel, the view of the town and valley from the top makes it worth the effort. The chapel itself is quite old and atmospheric and its positioning on the cliff face...More
Beware, the walk up to the church along the stone path is worn and makes the stones very slippery and is not for those with walking difficulties or with heart and lung conditions . Once you you get to the church the views are fantastic....More
The winding path takes you past the waterfalls up out of the city. Many people have taken the path so the cobblestones are quite smooth and slippery. On the way to the church there are beautiful views of the city down below and the paragliders...More
All the way up and down, the views of the village of Moustier-Ste-Marie and the surrounding area are breathtaking. The chapel itself is quiet and dark. Once your eyes adjust, look at the rose window and several other stained glass windows and the golden altar.
We based ourselves in Aix en Provence, rented a car and drove around the area. We arrived in Moustiers Sainte Marie at 11 am after visiting the Lavender fields in Valensole. We came on July 2.

Visited yesterday and enjoyed the climb... it was raining lightly so the stairs (with old pavers) was a little slippery. Wear good shoes and make the climb to see the chapel and waterfall! The view down to the village is also lovely.
