I really enjoyed Mr. Garey's impression of Twain - you can tell he has mastered his subject and he told the tales Twain told and wrote in a convincing and entertaining way. As Twain used the lecture as his medium, it made my visit to Hannibal very enjoyable. Show was about an hour. Garey - in character at all times... More

The actor tells in first person about the life and times of Mark Twain. He looks like him and talks like him. So many of Mark Twain's stories and quotes are so entertaining. I would highly recommend this show! We loved it! Arrive a little early to enjoy tea and swee

I had this one on the list for our recent visit to Hannibal, but the late start time was simply past my bed time (seriously). Well, it turned out that we were greeted by "Mark Twain" when our dinner/riverboat cruise returned to town, and since we felt energetic enough at that time, we decided to march on over and by... Wonderful show. For a low price you get the play, coffee or tea, a couple of cookies, and you get to meet the actor, who visits with the guests before and after the show. Worth twice the price.

Mr. Richard Garey really brings Mark Twain to life. Besides being an accomplished stage actor, he is also a historian and has committed several hours worth of Twain material to memory. During tea before the show, he interacts with you 'in character' and is so dead-on that you feel that you have actually met Mark Twain, it's uncanny. I also... More

Mr. Garey's talent shows through in this self-written depiction of Estrom, a shepherd living during the time of Christ's birth. His monologue of the events bring the audience to the time and place. The depiction of life in isolation, with connection to only the sheep and the potential predators, brings home the meaning of life afield. The theatre is cozy... More

We had a very enjoyable, laid-back evening at the Planters Barn Theater. There is a comfortable little seating area where they serve refreshments before the show. Mark Twain (Richard Garey) is sitting right there with you, enjoying a cookie and a cup of coffee. He visits with theater-goers, in character, a nice bonus to the main show. You can take... More

We had the good fortune to visit Hannibal, MO at the end of June of this year. We had the NOT so good fortune to visit on a Monday and Tuesday! Most things are open and available, but as in the tradition in theatre, there aren't performances on Monday evenings. While wandering around Main St., we happened upon this theatre... More
