Mr. Richard Garey really brings Mark Twain to life. Besides being an accomplished stage actor, he is also a historian and has committed several hours worth of Twain material to memory. During tea before the show, he interacts with you 'in character' and is so dead-on that you feel that you have actually met Mark Twain, it's uncanny. I also... More

Mr. Garey's talent shows through in this self-written depiction of Estrom, a shepherd living during the time of Christ's birth. His monologue of the events bring the audience to the time and place. The depiction of life in isolation, with connection to only the sheep and the potential predators, brings home the meaning of life afield. The theatre is cozy... More

We had a very enjoyable, laid-back evening at the Planters Barn Theater. There is a comfortable little seating area where they serve refreshments before the show. Mark Twain (Richard Garey) is sitting right there with you, enjoying a cookie and a cup of coffee. He visits with theater-goers, in character, a nice bonus to the main show. You can take... More

We had the good fortune to visit Hannibal, MO at the end of June of this year. We had the NOT so good fortune to visit on a Monday and Tuesday! Most things are open and available, but as in the tradition in theatre, there aren't performances on Monday evenings. While wandering around Main St., we happened upon this theatre... More

The presentation by Richard at the theater was great fun and he was more than willing to entertain (even took requests)..Loved the setting in the remodeled livery stable for the former hotel there on that spot. Wonderful presentation.

A Mark Twain portrayer (can't remember his name) gave a lecture as Mark Twain would have done. What was most interesting was the conversation before the lecture with the visitor's. It was like talking to Mark Twain himself. Go early and visit and have tea and treats...included with the price.

Definitely need to consider putting this on your Hannibal agenda. There's not much to do after 5pm, but this is one thing you can do. "Mark Twain" will mingle with you beforehand and regale you with wit, wisdom and humor all through the show.

We thoroughly enjoyed Richard Garey as "Mark Twain Himself" The wit and humor of Mark Twain makes you feel that Samuel Clemens is there in the room himself. This was a terrific experience and the ultimate highlight of our trip to Hannibal.

Richard Garey does an awesome job as Mark Twain. A very enjoyable show.Different every time. Garey also does a "Must See" performance of with A Shepherds Tale at Christmas time. It is eye-opening and deepens your appreciation of the reason for the season. The theater itself isquaint and intimate. Lots of parking outside. I love the location in the center... More
