- Wanderer204228367511 contributionBest cave experienceWe had a great time at Stark Caverns today. Our visit to Stark Caverns was made even more enjoyable thanks to our fantastic tour guide Katana! She kept the girls engaged and entertained throughout the tour with her great sense of humor and in-depth explanations of the stunning formations within the caves.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 6, 2024
- M Y13 contributionsOur first Cavern Tour..that wasn’t at a winery!😉The cavern tour was very informational. Our tour guide, Elle, was knowledgeable and you could tell she really cared about preserving the formations inside the cavern. The grounds were very clean as well as the restrooms. I would recommend this tour.Thank you for your visit and your feedback. - Cynthia T2 contributionsAmazing experienceWas helped by Paula as our tour guide and was pleasantly surprised. Decided to bring my kids and was nervous some would get bored of just learning about rocks and caves. Paula was great with keeping everyone engaged and interacted with all age groups. We did the day tour and got to learn so much about the history of the cave and about the different formations that go on. Each kid was amazed by different thing and even though we went yesterday, they have not stopped talking about it. Will definitely come back for both the black light tour and the escape room.We appreciate your kind review and are very happy to hear that the whole family had a great time! - Sallie GFenton, Missouri58 contributionsFamily FavoriteWe visited Stark Caverns with kids ranging in age from 9 to 15 years old. Liz was our tour guide and she was great. Liz took us through the cave and told us story after story about the Stark family and their 18 children and how they lived in the cave back in the day. While Liz was very knowledgeable about the cave and its history, she was also vey engaging. All the kids were interested in her stories and she answered all their questions. I would highly recommend this tour for any group of any age.Thank you for coming to visit us! We are so glad to hear that the whole family had a great time. - Sharon B2 contributionsAbsolutely wonderful way to spend an hour of your day!On our 2024 mission to visit as many caverns as possible, this was our 4th one. Each one is unique and so we can't really say any one is better than another. Stark Caverns is a MUST SEE. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and Bill, our tour guide, was knowledgeable yet down to earth (with humor to boot). It was hard to believe the hour went by so fast. We will definitely be back to do the black light tour.Sharon, we are honored to have been your 4th stop and look forward to an update on your mission when you come back for your next tour! - Sarah C6 contributionsGreat tour and amenities for all ages and mobility levels. We (48F, 71F, 73F) really enjoyed our tour at Stark Caverns yesterday! My mom has some mobility issues and the majority of the tour was on smooth, even ground with a very mild grade. She was able to walk through everything and there was a nice bench for her to wait on while most of the group climbed some tall & uneven stone stairs to a viewing platform. The modifications (hand rails, lights, bridges, etc), that were made to make the cave accessible to the public were done in away that blends into the environment while still making it very easy to explore. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the cave history and the different minerals and materials the cave is comprised of. She was also friendly, open to questions, and did a great job of making sure everyone had a chance to see what she was highlighting before moving along. The grounds outside the caverns are lovely and the newer buildings that houses the gift shop, snack and drink bar, and restrooms has a wonderful wrap around deck with rocking chairs that was a nice place to relax before/after tour. There are also picnic tables with umbrellas overlooking the pond outside the cavern’s entrance. Definitely a great combo of learning and fun for people of all ages. What a wonderful review Sarah! Thank you so much for sharing the experience you and your party had with us. We greatly appreciate the details you have shared about our facility as well. - Kathryn BColumbia, Missouri3 contributionsHidden Gem - Worth a Visit! This is a hidden gem in mid-Missouri! Our tour guide, Paula, was absolutely the best! I went with a middle school field trip group, but plan to return with our entire family and will certainly request to be in her group - you should too! The cave was pretty easy to get around, beautiful setting, and a fascinating piece of history and nature. Paula obviously loves the cave and sharing the history and science of it, and she kept the 7th graders engaged and interested.Kate, we are happy to hear that the entire field trip went great! Thank you for the detailed review, it means a lot! - Joy WOostburg, Wisconsin135 contributionsBlack light is the way to experience cavesWe went on a black light tour and it was the most beautiful way to see the cave. Our guide shared a lot of information before we even entered the cave and once inside she even explained so much more. We learned a lot about the cave, the creatures that live there, the minerals and water. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, informative and fun. This was the best cave tour I have ever been on.Joy, your review means so much! Thank you for taking the time to share details about your experience. The Black Light tour really is a magical way to experience our cave, being so different from anything the naked eye could ever see. - BarrelRacer96Wasola, Missouri1 contributionGreat for kids and adultsMy husband, myself, and our two kids took our tour on Mother’s Day and had Lee as a tour guide, he was so funny and knowledgeable, you can tell this man doesn’t just have a job he LOVES his job. This was both of our 7 year old daughters first tour and they had so much fun, Lee was able to get them engaged and learning and loved the tour also. When we went back to the gift shop I didn’t catch her name but a very nice lady assisted us in picking out two sifting bag for each and 2 geodes for myself and we had such a blast doing that too. We had such a good time and cannot recommend this place enough.Thank you for recommending our cave and sharing this wonderful review with others! Lee gave a fantastic tour of the cavern and shared a lot of information about the different formations, minerals, etc. He was mindful of the various hazards such as slippery pavement and low hanging rocks and guided us through each area very well. Lee knows what he’s doing. The cavern is beautiful.

Our tour guide, Mike, was great! We took a tour during a rain storm so the amount of water that was coming in was amazing! There was a small trickle into the wishing well at the beginning was nice as then at the tour of the tour, it was pouring in! Definitely worth the trip. I recommend taking the day tour and then booking the black light tour so you can see the different aspects of the cave

The entire tour with Lee was both informative and entertaining. You can tell Lee has vast knowledge, not only if this cavern but caves in general. His knowledge and experience made our tour quite memorable. He wove stories of his forty plus years in caves to help the cave come to life. Easily an overlooked opportunity for many who visit the.area but surely shouldn’t be. An hour we’ll spent and fully worth the price of admission.

Our first trip into a Lake of the Ozarks area cavern. Our lEthargy of four adults absolutely enjoyed it. Well worth the price of admission. Paula our tour guide was knowledgeable and very friendly, making the experience even better. The majority of the cavern is wheelchair and walker accessible, with only the end loop involving steps. I would not hesitate to bring our sub-teen grandchild on the tour, he would definitely enjoy it.

We bought tickets ahead of time online, but heard others purchasing tickets in the gift shop, so either way works. It was pretty busy, there were 28 people at our noon tour. The cave is interesting and well maintained. It takes about an hour- good activity on a hot summer day! Our guide (didn’t get her name), was knowledgeable and helpful and obviously a cave loving person. The grounds surrounding the cave entrance are beautiful too! No food for sale except a few drinks and snacks.

Our tour guide- Christy was so nice & knowledgable!! If you love history and nature this tour is perfect for you! . It wasn’t tight - plenty of room so people that are claustrophobic shouldn’t feel stressed. I would recommend a jacket if you tend to get cold but definitely sturdy shoes with good soles .

Thank your for your visit and review Jane. Christy is a wonderful and experienced guide. She's been with us for about 3 years now and her passion for geology is just terrific for both her customers and our team. We're so pleased you enjoyed your tour with her.

We ended up having a private black-light tour with Lee since nobody else had joined. We have already been to several caves before, but this tour was very unusual and memorable. The black light allowed us seeing the beauty of the caverns from a different perspective, to learn and discover many things we had not known before. It was amazing to see how much Lee knows abut the caverns and how much he loves what he does. It definitely added the value to the tour.

Really interesting cave with beauty and interesting history. It is pretty large too! Our guide Erin was a friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. She used a blacklight to reveal amazing colors presented by the millions of organisms found all over the cave walls! Before the tour we hikes the property and enjoyed the sunshine at the picnic area. Overall great experience for the entire family! Highly recommended tour, thank you to Erin!

Zach was an awesome tour guide for our blacklight tour at 630 tonight! It was just my wife and 4 kids and he had those kids hanging on his every word and laughing at all his jokes! He was very knowledgeable about the formations and chemistry behind why things would glow the colors the did. Again, the kids and we were absolutely amazed! Thank you so very much for an amazing time and we highly recommend Stark caverns (especially Zach) for a great time!!

We didn’t tip, although now I feel bad cuz I didn’t even think of it. I didn’t see anyone in our group (of about 12) tip her, either. And I’m not a cheap you-know-what... it just didn’t seem like a thing to do. However, I’m sure she’d have appreciated it!

Is the cave handicap accessible
Written October 4, 2018
The front two-thirds of the cave are handicapped accessible with no stairs and wide, relatively flat walkways. There is 1 section of the cave with over 30 steep steps, but there is a sitting bench right by the staircase. There is one other area with about 8 steps, across 3 different areas. This area of the cave is wet with more narrow pathways. They are still quite navigable by most people and even those with walkers.

I think you’re asking how hard the tour is right? It’s actually pretty easy. I had my four young children with me and even my 2-year old was able to get around without issue.
