About
Stark Caverns is located near Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Just 6 1/2 miles east of Bagnell Dam off Hwy 54. The cave contains an underground lake, ancient bear beds, Moonshiner's Dam, Native American artifacts, a wishing well and a wide variety of cave formations including Helectites, Helegmites, Stromatolites, Stalactites, Stalagmites, unsurpassed Spongework and Cave Coral. We offer our standard cave tour as well as a black light tour which takes place several days a week at the end of the day. Check the web site for details. We have a great gift shop, education/event space and mining sluice. From May - August, tours are hourly or more frequent. From September - April, tours are at 10, 12, 2 and 4.

Lee, our tour guide was exceptional. He had a pleasant sense of humor, a vast knowledge about both this specific cavern as well as the geologic processes involved in creating caves. He was able to keep adults, teens, & children down to age five entertained. Gift shop was very well equipped as well, with activities for children.

Lee gave a fantastic tour of the cavern and shared a lot of information about the different formations, minerals, etc. He was mindful of the various hazards such as slippery pavement and low hanging rocks and guided us through each area very well. Lee knows what he’s doing. The cavern is beautiful.

Really interesting cave with beauty and interesting history. It is pretty large too! Our guide Erin was a friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. She used a blacklight to reveal amazing colors presented by the millions of organisms found all over the cave walls! Before the tour we hikes the property and enjoyed the sunshine at the picnic area. Overall great experience for the entire family! Highly recommended tour, thank you to Erin!

This was my second visit to Stark Caverns, the first being in summer of 2019. The tour was just as fun and exciting (maybe even more so) the second time.

Our tour guides both times were enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and engaging. This visit, our guide was Paula, who delivered one of the best cave tours I've ever received. I'm a tour guide at Mark Twain Cave in Hannibal, and I believe one element that sets aside good cave guides from great cave guides is genuine interest in the subject at hand. Paula clearly had this factor; her tour is passionate, she clearly loves the cave and its history, and was eager to share as many facts and stories as possible. I was surprised to find that she hadn't been a tour guide for longer.

Would recommend Stark Caverns for nice facilities, interesting natural and anthropological history, aesthetically impressive geology, and very knowledgeable and personable guides.

We were visiting our daughter at Mizzou and looking for something fun and different. Stark Caverns came through in a BIG way. Our guide, Lee, led a large group of 24 on a tour of the caves that was memorable both for the scenery and for his wit and knowledge of the caves. Highly recommend this place and we will be back the next time we're in MO.

Our first trip into a Lake of the Ozarks area cavern. Our lEthargy of four adults absolutely enjoyed it. Well worth the price of admission. Paula our tour guide was knowledgeable and very friendly, making the experience even better. The majority of the cavern is wheelchair and walker accessible, with only the end loop involving steps. I would not hesitate to bring our sub-teen grandchild on the tour, he would definitely enjoy it.

Lee gave a great black light tour! He was very knowledgeable about the minerals and we had a chance to spot some of inhabitants of the cave :)
One of my personal favorites was the unpolished ruby that they had in the cave :) all the little surprises they had placed around the cave made it a fun adventure. The broad history of the cave, the fountains, the petrified fire pit and bear dens to the petrified National Geographic recognized 2nd floor ceiling ;)
The wishing well and fountain of youth, the hanging garden... Stark Cave was such a neat place. We had a chance to experience complete silence and darkness! Time and water reveal so much beauty if you put the right light on it, and hold it there long enough, Lee will show you some of the tricks he has learned and the neat state fossils he found, one is the size of his thumb! Take a tour, or two! Thank you Lee! 😊

The four stars is totally for the cave and it’s beauty. The cave is very unique and beautiful. The water that runs through it is calming and enjoyable to see and hear. The formations are unique and well lit and easy to see.

If I had to rate the tour guide “Pearl” it would be a one star review. She started out telling us how fast she talked and that we needed to keep up but she was working on it. She instructed everyone not to touch the cave walls and explained why and everyone agreed. Then it was like someone hit her speed play button. From there on out she talked as fast as she could. Which also meant she didn’t articulate a single word. She talked to fast it was hard to understand a thing she said. A couple times I tried to ask for clarification on some fact but she seemed irritated that I ask. During one point and out of the blue she said “remember don’t touch the walls, if you do I’ll kill you.” Keep in mind nobody in the group had violated the rule. I think she thought she was being funny. But she wasn’t.

Go see the cave. Just don’t go on a tour with Pearl. Surely they have better tour guides.

We ended up having a private black-light tour with Lee since nobody else had joined. We have already been to several caves before, but this tour was very unusual and memorable. The black light allowed us seeing the beauty of the caverns from a different perspective, to learn and discover many things we had not known before. It was amazing to see how much Lee knows abut the caverns and how much he loves what he does. It definitely added the value to the tour.

This staff was very accommodating with this reservation. We were a party of 10 people 4 children ranging for 6 months old to 8 yrs and 6 adults 42 to 75 yrs. My sister in-law is in a wheel chair and they made access very easy for her to enjoy with the entire family. The staff was very knowledgeable about all the cave formations and could explain it so well that the kids really enjoyed it. I highly recommend to tour for the whole family.
