About
In 1907 a Christian minister named Harold Bell Wright wrote a book that would forever change southwest Missouri. The Shepherd of the Hills became a instant best seller making Branson into a tourist destination overnight. On this historic Homestead, where he spent his summers with the Ross family, whom he based the book around, we bring to life beautiful outdoor drama that made Branson into a Christian destination. Now going into our 60th season! Come see the story of the Ozarks.

we paid 100 for 2 carriage rides, the website and the information when we called were very different. the lady answering the phone was helpful but wasnt sure if the times advertised were accurate or if we could get all six of us on a ride, although the website said carriage for 6. we bought a ticket for 545 and one for 6, we had assigned times. But when we got to the designated area there was a line of people at 545 we didnt get our first carriage untill 6, which isnt a big deal except it was cold, the ride was super short and the carriages had minimal decor for the Holiday, the drive had no clue about the line or the order or the ticket times, would have been good to have someone dressed festively who kept order in the line and coordinated, the route went through the north pole attraction so no need to pay for both really, i feel there could have been a better route for a 30 minute ride, more decor and more lights to see

I'd recommend reading the book first so you have a better idea of the storyline. The homestead appears authentic museum, but there are current shops and entertainment. There were some authentic craftsmen and crafts available. The park has a petting area with lots of goats, and farm style playground, and mini golf included in the price of the play. It rained for about 15 minutes shortly before the play started and they went ahead with the play, which is great since we had guests from out of state. the play with live animals is great. Two of the actors need to speak clearly so the audience can understand. Don't let the Ozarky accent overwhelm your lines. It appeared that one mic acted up because of the weather, and one of the girls, didn't make it on the horse the first try, but she was a trooper and kept in character. Come early so you can enjoy the additional venues.

I've watched this play more than once. I've also read the novel more than once. Some years the play production is better than others, but each time I'm captivated by the uniqueness of the outdoor arena and the usage of live animals and old wagons. It is always successful in taking one back in time to 100 years ago.

The first half of the play that we were able to see was good, but the play was cancelled due to a storm. The reason for the one star is due to the promise made that night that we would get a rain check or refund. We attempted doing that & because we went through a 3rd party, were told we could return either that night to watch (on a rainy day no doubt where it could be rained out again!) or come to a show by the end of May. We couldn’t see it that night as we were leaving Branson for our next destination. We live in Texas & are certainly not returning in 2 weeks to a place where we stayed 4 nights just to see The Shepherd of the Hills outdoor play (where it could rain again)! Bottom line, we are out $130 and only received an $18 credit from the 3rd party. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Took the family to see A Christmas Story, Dinner Theater at The Doll House. Please don’t waste your hard earned money on a production just above a high school play and sub-par food. Almost $50 each for one small piece of ham, a scoop of mushy cornbread stuffing and Apple Cobbler (no ice cream or whipped cream offered). Plenty of green beans. Some folks had mashed potatoes, but we didn’t. The flat dinner roll was dry and hard as a rock. You had to get your own drinks/refills, which were water, sweet and unsweetened tea and lemonade (that’s it). No sodas or coffee. The actors did a good job but the audio was terrible and cringey. The stage stayed the same background while they tried to act out the car ride, mall scene, outdoor scenes, etc. We really did expect better from a company like Shepherd of the Hills. I could go on, but honestly one of the worst experiences.. AVOID!

Should of read the other reviews first!

Note: A separate review was made for the adventure park. The outdoor drama was a bit hokey but it was something different. The grounds are fun to explore though their “Pumpkin Fest” is over priced for the actual activities provided. The “hayride” is NOT socially distanced and the staff seem to take a lackadaisical approach to social distancing protocol. I realize it’s a very polarizing subject so just make the best decision for you and your family.

We were staying at a condo on the lake so this was close by and we decided to stop in there one day To do the observation tower and ended up spending a few days there. We ziplined and saw two shows. We were at on their 60th anniversary show. Holy cow it was really neat. One of the guides told us that they were the best adventure park in America according to USA today two years running.

Tree top zipline adventure was really fun. Course is 8 lines total and our guides Savannah and Taylor were great. We were grouped with 2 other families so 12 people total. Having all 12 of us on the tree platform at one time did make it a little tight at times but the ladies did a great job keeping everyone safe and making our zip line experience a positive one.

I have been trying for years to get to the Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor drama. I combined the dinner and show. The dinner was okay, but selection was limited. Would not personally do the dinner again. The performance was Ozark's to be sure, but the actors did a fine job of portraying the era and basis of the tale. Worth seeing at least once in a lifetime.

A wonderful place to learn about a piece of Branson history, a pioneer family and a preacher who wrote a book. You can actually walk through the families original cabin and get a true glimpse into what their daily life was like. The property is set in a spot that has amazing views. Go up in the tower on a clear day to get an amazing 360 degree view. Walk along the shops. Enjoy the hot chocolate. Numerous activities for kids including a petting zoo. Walk through the beautiful chapel that was added to the property. We enjoyed several hours of wandering through the property. There’s a live dinner show, sweet shop, gift store and restaurant as well.
