Cleanest nature center we have been to. Lots of activities and trails for the grandchildren. They made good use of the indoor slide and short half mile walking trail. Free too, which was a plus!

Nice conservation center, has many family/kid friendly activities (check website). Great walking paths at various levels of difficulty (including wheel chair and stroller friendly). Nice experience all year long in all types of weather.

The Nature Center was impressive with its clean restrooms, a play area for children, plenty of exhibits, etc. We did the Discovery Trail (.5 miles) just behind the Nature Center which has a paved trail. Though it wasn't milkweed or butterfly season, this was an easy walk and there was still plenty to see, including the outside children's playground at the start of the trail. Then we did the Missouri Tree Trail (.75 miles) which also was paved. This took us through 4 different eco-systems. Had it been less hot, humid and sticky we would like to have done the trail with the falls or one of the other two trails. The two trails we did -- both paved -- are certainly wheel chair accessible, if this is important to you.

Love this park, Nature Center is great for kids and adults alike with several exhibits of reptiles, birds, fish and other animals! We've been coming here for 50 years! I have a picture of my husband and I when we were first married sitting on a fallen tree. Lots of different trails to walk on, beautiful scenery, a pretty (small) lake area to sit by, nature at it's finest! I like the Hickory Woods Trail because I know going to the end and back is around 3 miles. Pretty outdoor bird feeding area and nicely paved walking trail suitable for handicap right behind the nature center. Tranquil Haven of Rest. Great prayer walks!

This is a well maintained DNR park with well marked trails. Several trails are paved and handicap accessible. The trails are open year round except for when they have managed hunts, usually in the fall...check the web site.

Each time I've been to Burr Oak Woods there is something new. Displays or wildlife. My favorite though is the walking trail -- informative, shady and soothing walking amongst the trees.

Nice wide walking trails. You might even come up on deer. They also have a nice nature center that sometimes has activities for young children. The trails aren't flat but most anyone can walk them. There are benches or resting places spaced out which are handy if you need to stop.

Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area is a wonderful place to enjoy a visit with nature. The main attraction for families with small children is the Nature Center which is beautifully designed and displays a variety of exhibits of birds, fish, reptiles and mammals. The stuffed displays of wolverine, otter, beaver, eagle and bobcat are very realistic. The aquarium is very informative and well stocked. There are several other tools and displays for interactive learning. Also, there are displays of live animals such as several snakes and frogs tended by volunteers. My visit coincided with feeding time for frogs.

The Conservation Area has several trails, and two of them area paved. The Missouri Tree trail is concrete paved and has native Missouri trees name-tagged along the trail. The trail provides a beautiful walk of about a mile. The Discovery trail is asphalt paved and about a half mile long through the woods. At the beginning of the trail there is a nice outdoor nature discovery classroom for children.

Additionally, the Conservation Area allows hunting (in season). In summary, Burr Oak Woods is a wonderful place for communing with nature.

This conservation area is well designed and beautifully maintained. In addition to taking a leisurely walk through the woods, one can also view the multiple exhibits at the visitor center.
