Rochlitz Castle is different as it has two towers - most others only one central keep. Both towers where used as a prison and have both a deep dungeon in the basement - originally only accessible through a hole in the ceiling.
At the moment Rochlitz Castle has a special exhibition that is part of the EUR8 entry fee - women in 500 years of Reformation that is well worth a visit.
The small cafe at the entrance is inviting though self service.

An excellent museum, especially when travelling with children. The VR options and chance to dress up as knight or prices are amazing and keep children interested.

Driving from Chemnitz to Leipzig saw the sign for Schloss Rochlitz on the motorway so decided to make a diversion and glad we did.
Visited Schloss Colditz before (mainly because of WW2 connection) and as a building Schloss Rochlitz was was more interesting.
Parked in the town square car park at 1€ for 2 hours and followed signs to the Schloss. Easy walk of 5-10 minutes.
Started at the cafe which was very pleasant overlooking the river Zwickau Mulde.
Only 5€ entrance to the Schloss each plus 2€ for the English audio guide (a must). The first room was somewhat dry but as the tour progressed it became more interesting. Climb to the top of the tower for amazing views.
Finished off an excellent day touring Saxony. Had to rush a bit at the end to get back to the car park within the time limit, but that didn’t spoil anything.

I have been here a year ago but could not access all areas due to a special exhibition and this time around we had a whole castle to explore and it did not disappoint. From it's medieval roots to relatively modern changes this place is well worth a visit for at least 3 hours if not more.
There is something for everyone - the chapel with it's painted walls, the area where one can see the before and after photos and also the dungeons and prison cells as much as the royal apartments. The cafe at the entrance is also worth a visit (self service).

visit castle Rochlitz and ask for a guided tour - you will have a great stay there. They have different kind of tours - that are good for kids groups as well as for adults. Ask for Michael Kreskowsky as a guide!!!

The tour of the castle was very detailed and interesting and justified the price. So people, just go there!
