Castlewood is a great place to get a fairly challenging walk or trail bike ride. I have never had a bad experience there, even when the weather is bad. Solitude during the week, and I usually see someone I know when I go on the...More

There are hikes for all levels. My favorite is the bluff hike, with beautiful views fo the Meramec River. Also has trails for mountain bikes.

Two challenges that face people that want to kayak on a river is the proximity to home and the logistics of being dropped off or picked up. For me, paddling on the Meramec River and using Castlewood State Park as a launch point solves both...More

I've seen many people play in the river but I do not let my children swim or wade in the Meramec. It is dangerous because of the undertow that will drag you under . Between 2004 and 2016, twelve people drowned.

I believe it’s the one on Left as you come into the park about 1/2 mike from the visitor center. Stop at the building at the entrance and there are maps of the park.

The floods mostly come in Spring. Mostly. October should be relatively safe. I don't recall the park flooding at any time during Autumn, at least not during recent history.
