Excellent small museum and library for one of the greatest American generals & presidents. Top floor of the very handsome MSU campus library. Excellent ephemera (letters, maps, diaries, handbills, etc), beautifully appointed (technical things like design, lighting, etc are excellent); surprisingly effective use of near-full-size mannequins which are evocative of the man and his times. Highly recommended.

It is tucked away in a library at Mississippi State University, so you have to know it is there and want to go. It is free admission and they have a small gift shop or ability to make a donation. The museum is well done, laid out in a simple, easy to follow timeline from birth to death. There are some interesting documents and other pieces owned by the Grants along with tons of information via signs and interactive monitors.

Awesome museum! Really well designed, easy to explore an I learned a lot about his life and presidency. Also learned a lot about Grant's Tomb - his funeral and the honors that followed. This museum is well worth the stop. The library it is housed in is pretty fun to see as well. We paid $5 to park for a couple hours at the lot just a couple blocks away from it, and walked up to the library.

Here for graduation and decided to tour the library. Impressive display of artifacts. I have been to some of the top museums in the world and the interactive nature of these exhibits rivals them all. So glad that Mississippi State has the expertise to attract quality additions such as this

We were so fortunate to visit this wonderful historical memorial to Ulysses S. Grant accompanied by John Marszalek. Previously we really knew little about Grant but now understand much better what he did for our country during a very turbulent time. It is amazing how many historical papers they still need to go thru to continue cataloguing their valuable information. One of the really cool things they have are all of the interactive displays (thank you Louis). Highly recommended.

Went on a weekday and before school started, good idea. Parked at corner lot of Lee and Hardy Street at meter parking for $3.25. Short walk to museum, took about an hour and a half. Free admission into museum. Grant exhibits were really nice, all the interactive‘s and videos were worth the exploration. Lincoln stuff was neat too. A few souvenirs and friendly staff.

Overall a good exhibit. Several interactive exhibits and a lot of static content.
Way more emphasis of the Civil War era than the presidential era. Arguably, this shaped and molded the perception about Grant, but he did serve two terms and less than half of the exhibit gave homage to those years.
There is also an exhibit of Lincoln memoriabilia from a private art collection. It was ok but not nearly as good as the Lincoln presidential library.
We spent a couple hours at the library and were pleased with the information presented.
Entry is free and part of the library on the gorgeous Mississippi State campus.

We’re trying to visit as many of the presidential libraries as possible and we’re glad we stopped and visited. Well presented. Unclear on why it’s located in Starkville MS, although they tried to explain. Parking more of a challenge than other libraries. This has been discussed in previous reviews. We chose to use the park and ride from the bookstore to the library. Yes, we had to pay for parking and it took longer, but it was worth it. If in the area, definitely need to plan on visiting.

Admission is free an added plus is there is a section for Abraham Lincoln. This library is located on the Ole Miss campus which is closed on Sundays, game days, and government holidays.
Very interesting touch screens to learn more about Grant’s presidency and military service during the civil war. The entrance of the his library is about Grant as a Union general who defeated Robert E. Lee the confederate general.
Abraham Lincoln’s section also has a touch screen that gives more details about his assignation.

What hours is the US Grant library area open? Do you need an appointment? Information on website isn't clear.

The U S Grant Library is inside the university library and follows their hours. No appointment is necessary. However, the new display won't be open until later this year and the current display is small but impressive with the kinds of original documents they have.
