About
Nestled in the foothills of Adelaide with views over the city, Magill Estate is one of the worlds few urban single vineyards only 15 minutes drive from Adelaide city. The Cellar Door offers a selection of wine tastings daily. Tailored tastings are available on request and a choice of experiences are on offer. Experiences feature the recently re-developed Drives (tunnels) that showcase the original resting spot of Max Schubert's 'hidden' Grange.

Firstly, the ‘Ultimate’ tour itself was very interesting and good value if you’re interested in trying some premium wines. Being able to see inside the old family homestead was also great, as was going down to the cellar tunnels and hearing the stories behind Penfolds and the Grange. The tasting at the end was made better because of the context we then had behind the different wines.
Secondly, the entire tour and experience was elevated to excellent because of Kieran, our guide/wine maestro. His enthusiasm for Penfolds was infectious, and his easy-going, bubbly personality made our time at the Penfolds Estate far more memorable than we were expecting. He gave us great recommendations for buying back vintages and was just eager for us to have a great time. He really did make the wines come alive.
Would definitely recommend doing the tour, instead of just the tastings, as the context and stories behind it all does make you appreciate the uniqueness of some of the Penfolds wines, and helped us to see the wines as more than just a famous label.

We went there for the Grange experience and were not disappointed. This experience has to be booked in advance. We had our own sommelier and when comfortably seated several of Penfolds premium wines were brought for tasting. The final wine was the Grange. We were not disappointed. Would highly recommend.

Josh was a very informative and engaging tour guide through the winery. He then provided a detailed tasting, answering questions and walking us through a beautiful tasting flight, finishing with the delicious Magill Estate wine. Perfect way to spend some time in Adelaide. Highly recommend!

Penfolds Magill Estate Cellar Door
We walked-in at the last minute and were lucky enough to be able to join the cellar door tour that includes the tasting at the end.
The tour was excellent done by Ivan. He really shows us the warm hospitality and displays an extensive knowledge about the estate. The tour was interactive, informative and entertaining. We couldn't ask for more. We would definitely recommend this when you are in Adelaide.
A very memorable day and experience indeed! It was that good!

Such a poor experience we left after 3 samples and 4 different wine experts. We were there over an hour and it dragged on and eventually we just left. Very disappointing as we live in Canada and this was our wine of choice. Lots of staff just standing around not to impressive.

Having eaten at Magill Estate Kitchen on Sunday (which was excellent) just passed, we decided to go to the celler door for a tasting prior. Was a good experience, although it seemed as if everyone was running around a lot. We didn’t have a booking however felt lucky to be taken care of. Would go again on a quieter day.

Had a great wine tasting, with lovely service from the attentive staff. The lady behind the counter shared a lot of knowledge and showed us great service. We felt very well taken care of. And of course, great wine.

Every time we come here we have the most wonderful time. Food in both the Kitchen and Restaurant is outstanding. We are so proud to bring interstate guests here to showcase SA. Sams expertise and friendly service at the tastings just made our Australia Day. Thanks so much!

We did the tour along with the tasting afterwards, Josh looked after us throughout. Amazingly informative when it came to the history of penfolds, the wine making process past and present, and a thorough knowledge when it came to the different tasting notes. Causing us to buy more wine then we intended. Cannot recommend Josh enough! Overall the experience was amazing and well worth it!

We had a private tasting experience at the winery which is in such a lovely location in Adelaide. Despite the rainy day we enjoyed many wines with an excellent wine maker explaining all the wines. It was a lovely afternoon with no pressure at all to purchase at the end of the tasting. Well worth a visit

Hi Mark, we have a number of options for you at Magill Estate:
1. Tasting (at our tasting bar)
$10pp - redeemable on any purchase or meal spend, no need to book for a group of five
2. Heritage Experience (Historic tour)
$20pp, 10:00am and 1:00pm daily, booking recommended
3. Ultimate Penfolds Experience (Historic tour and exclusive wine tasting including a tasting of Grange)
$150pp, 11am daily, booking recommended
4. Twilight Tour and Luxury Degustation Dinner (Historic tour at dusk followed by 7-course degustation at the award-wining Magill Estate Restaurant)
$555pp, 6pm daily, booking required
You can pre-book our experiences on our website.
Also, you might like to know that our daytime cafe, Magill Estate Kitchen is open 7 days a week for lunch as well as brunch on the weekends.

They have a tour. I can't remember the exact time but call and book it in advance. We just walked in and were extremely lucky it was just starting. The wine sampling is fun too.
