I have been to several Children's Museums over the years and typically you can expect extremely high prices and broken or poorly functioning exhibits (looking at you water cannons). We stopped here while traveling through Jackson and this one had neither. 10 dollars a person is extremely reasonable for the attractions inside. They had plenty of play areas with tunnels, which is what kids really want when they go to these places. It was also very bright and open inside which made it more pleasurable to be in.
It was also EXTREMELY clean. The restrooms were immaculate, which is saying something for this type of establishment. I saw one gentleman throughout our visit who seemed liked his sole job was to make sure this place was spotless!

This was a nice Childrens museum. My son really like the tunnel on the lower floor. He had a ball. The best part of this museum complex is the park over by the natural science museum entrance. The park is modern and PACKED. Excellent.

Our children (ages 6 & 2) loved this place. We spent over 4 hours playing and learning. We learned about Mississippi forestry, shrimping catfish in the rivers. We learned about cars, the digestion system and did a couple of art projects. That doesn’t even name half the fun we at the museum. Well worth time and money spent.

We have been members of this museum for years now. We saw it when it first opened. It is a very welcome addition to the possible activities for children in our area! My child loves it. But over the years, as the exhibits have endured wear and tear, they seem unable to keep them repaired. We visited again this past week and there were 3-4 exhibits that weren’t able to be enjoyed because it was currently under repair. This has been a normal experience over the past few years. Also, they charged $10 for my 1 year old to enter! My one year old can barely enjoy even a quarter of the museum! 80-90% of the exhibits are geared toward older children (2 1/2-10 year olds). I couldn’t believe they would charge a 1 year old FULL ticket price! We currently have a membership for 3 people, and even though we have less than one month left on it they were going to charge me $30 to add my 1 year old to our membership, so I just paid regular admission for her to enter. It is crazy to me that they would charge for a 1 year old at all... but to charge full admission prices is silly and appears greedy.
Their cafe has yummy and healthy options. I’ve enjoyed a lot of things I’ve ordered there.
They have a nursing room, which is great for nursing mamas.
Their speaker system is really bad. It is very difficult to hear what is being announced, especially if you are in the “underground” portion of the museum. They really need to fix that, especially in case of emergencies.

Hateful, ugly staff. Came from Tennessee and my son was yelled at by a woman to not go a step further without paying. We were deciding if we’d like to stay and play and that helped us quickly make our exit.
Museum is much smaller than the one we regularly visit in Chattanooga, but did look like it could have been entertaining. Very upsetting that their staff is so incredibly rude and hateful to young, curious children. A real shame.

A little on the pricy side, but since it was 90+ degrees outside, we thought it was worth the $10/person, and there were 6 of us. Lots of things for our 3 yr old to do and even our 1 yr old had fun walking around. Multi-level facility with many areas to keep kids engaged for hours. Lots of historical areas for them to learn at as well.

Hi Angela S,
We are glad to be a place to escape the Mississippi heat and have fun along the way. As a non-profit museum, we do our best to be accessible for all families of different economic backgrounds to give all children a place to learn and play. We hope that you will be able to visit again and consider getting a family membership. This allows your family to pay a flat rate and visit as many times as you like for a full year! (Includes cafe and gift shop discounts). Please enjoy your summer and we hope to see you again!

Museum should be a fun experience but due to the condition of the play costumes and hats my girls got lice after playing with them

Hi 222racer,
First, thank you for visiting the museum. We appreciate your support.
We are very sad to see this review because we pride ourselves on taking every possible precaution to keep all of our visitors safe and healthy. We unfortunately did not receive any emails about your situation. Please send further e-mails to info@mississippichildrensmuseum.com and we would be happy to respond.
We have strict cleaning policies that include thoroughly sanitizing all of our equipment and exhibits that are played with everyday. We use a safe, non-toxic solution and wash our costumes and all items on a daily basis.
We understand that everyone is at risk for contracting head lice, and that it is not a very pleasant experience. Head lice can be contracted under several circumstances, and we hope you will reevaluate where your children might have come in contact with the infection.
Thank you for your review and we hope that you have a more enjoyable experience on another visit!

We took the niece and nephew for an afternoon at the MCM last week. It was a fun day and they loved it. Important note: We are from Rochester, home of the National Museum of Play, the largest Children's Museum in the country, so we have seen the top of the top with Children's Museums. That said, MCM is very nice.
The one stand out that was hard to comprehend is that almost every exhibit showed children about a job they might someday have. How to be a doctor, how to be a forester, how to operate a crane, how to farm-raise fish, how to frack (!!!) An even more odd exhibit was how to turn housework into exercise (speed load the dishwasher, do bicep curls with a 5 lb bag of sugar, etc.)
The children were playing, but it all seemed like play with a message. Where was the simply unbridled joy of just playing? I understand that museums are educational, and there were definitely exhibits that touched on history, but the overwhelming vibe was corporate-sponsored careerism. I think that is a shame.

This is a great place to take a family for a wonderful outing for you and the kids. It is also good for rainy day activities.

We were traveling west for the Alabama game (Roll Tide!) and were looking for fun things to do. We stopped here and the kids didn't want to leave. Our 6 year old and 4 year old each had plenty to play with. They had the chance to explore so many different things (the digestive system, construction, energy, music, theater) and the museum really is great for kids 4-10. I can see it being somewhere that kids would enjoy coming back to again and again. We live in the Atlanta area and truthfully, this museum is far superior to the experience that you get at the Atlanta Children's museum because of the breadth and depth of their experience here. This is a must stop!

Depending on your child's age, attention span, and interest, I would say anywhere from 1-3 hours. There is a cafe inside if you want to take a snack break. Everything is self-directed, so it's really up to you as to how long you stay. But there are certainly enough activities to entertain you for several hours.

Two plus hours. Children will vary in interest, but a minimum of 2 hours is my opinion.
