If you're looking for something to do in Jackson, I'd go here. There a free guided tours (not sure how often they leave). We missed the tour, but you are still able to guide yourself through.

It looks like the US Capitol in Washington, and is just as nearly breathtaking. You have to guide yourself around, but there are so many things to see that it's not hard.

The Mississippi State Capitol is the closest state Capitol building in architectual style to the US Capitol building. Constructed in 1903 and renovated as well as restored to its original beauty on the 1980's, this landmark is worth the time of those who are interested in history as well as an appreciation for architectual styles and special construction techniques. After... More

We visited the capitol and tagged along on one of the free tours offered. The design of the building is beautiful, both inside and out. It was very interesting to see inside the chambers where business is actually being conducted.

We had hoped to see both the old and new state capitols, but the old one, now a museum, was closed the day we were there. As it happened, this one is so unique and intriguing that we felt we got the old with the new, because this one was built just when electric lighting came in. Thus, we have... More

We were passing through Mississippi on the way home from a Louisiana trip. We wanted to do one more activity that we couldn't do in Tennessee so we stopped here. The capital is a museum. It offers a lot of history, artifacts and more. There is a tiny gift area that has postcards mostly. The staff is very nice, knowledgeable,... More
