I went here Saturday January 22, 2022. It was a very freezing cold 21 degrees when we left our hotel. It had warmed to about 38 degrees when I started the hike. This is 28 minutes from our Hattiesburg location. I did not see any no trespassing signs as stated in previous posts. Only 1 single Road Closed sign along the highway. There were two parking points. This day had about 100 people all over the canyon. I counted 30 cars between the 2 lots. The canyons themselves were very loose sand unstable but you were still able to climb. There are zero trails so expect to bush whack your way down to the canyon floor. There were loads of prickly trees so be careful what you grab onto. I did not get the least bit wet as previous posts indicate. I hiked the entire upper perimeter where the roadway caved into the canyon that was an eerie feeling. I even saw new pieces of roadway that had just collapsed. Getting down I pretty much had to sit and slide. We brought our 2 dogs but no way were dogs able to get to the floor especially with no trails. My husband took the dogs around the upper perimeter. If you choose to find your way down to the floor (and you should make the effort) it is worth your while. It will be difficult you will hit soft sand at times. Also I saw some trash but not as bad as others have complained about. Great place to hike, climb and take pictures. Not a dog place or small child place it is dangerous.

Waze did get us to the right spot to park. My wife and I then walked about 1/4 of a mile to the top this bluff. From there, we could look down at the various, unusual colors of clay and sand. It was very pretty. However, we had come to hike the loop around the bluff and could not do so because erosion had washed out the trail at the top of the bluff. I could see that a new trail had been started further away from the top of the bluff, but it was overgrown and poison ivy was present. There was no way that I was going to tromp through that. So our trip was cut short. The bluff is at a very out of the way location and we would not recommend making the trip unless you had a compelling reason to do so.

We came here from Hattiesburg, and the map quest did an ok job of getting us there. Note: Look for a sign that says Red Bluff follow that road ) We parked where the sign said Red Bluff, there is a railroad beam across the road, follow the grass or dirt path up to road follow that up to the bluff. It is a sight to see the colors are amazing! You can see for miles!! Please be careful the road is gone, and it's a very steep drop off. The road is totally gone in one spot, so we took the trail, which is rocky and steep in spots. This takes you to the other side of the bluff, which also has a parking area. Now, to get to this parking area, from where we parked, turn right out of there and look for the first road on your right, there is a road closed sign just past that is the parking area. Now, here are some tips: 1, I do not recommend this for little kids. There are no railings and very steep trails. 2. We're hard shoes or hiking boots ( Note they will be covered in a redish dirt, but Dawn works great to get them clean) 3. Bring water it's hot in the sun! Also, hat.
It took us about 2 hrs to hike around, stopping to take pictures and back to car. But it is so worth it! I now know why it's called the Grand Canyon of the South

Amazing to see how nature thwarted man’s plans! The road closed sign present in picture in 2016 is now at the bottom of the canyon. A lot of trash from irresponsible people however. Overall glad we stopped to see it.

It was truly breathtaking! Thanks to another visitor from Dallas giving super specific instructions on how to get there, made this a lot easier to find. We went down the other road kind of the back way into the canyon. We walked to the right first and took pictures. Then we went to the left and down the trail to the Pearl River. We were trying to find a way into the canyon from there and we were almost there and I fell. So I was done and we went back. Despite that though, it was fun. Will be back.

We really had a fun mid-afternoon. There are several great areas where you can view and take photos. You can also, walk down into the canyon, but be careful. The colors are vivid and beautiful. The Bluff is a bit difficult to find. Why there is no signage noting the location is a mystery to me.
It seems to me that if there was some infrastructure build-up, such as picnic tables, or perhaps a snack kiosk, that there would be many more visitors. Going north, it’s just beyond Morgantown on route 587. There is a little turnoff on the east side of the road. You will see a “Road closed” sign. You can park there and walk on the side road until you get to the bluff. We liked it, I think that you will also.

We were driving from NO to Tupelo and this spot came up as a spot of interest. So glad we stopped to see it. It is gorgeous. The colors of the clay and sand remind me of the sites in Utah. The hole in the ground and formations remind me of the Grand Canyon. Absolutely breathtaking. You can see beautiful fall colors with reds, yellows, golds, browns, oranges, pinks, and with white dabbed in. So pretty. I will say it is not for the physically impaired. It is quite a hike up a hill to the bluff. But first you must get thru the barrier that says 'No Trespassing' and 'Road Closed'. If you can make it all the way to the top, it is well worth the trip. Highly recommended.

If you happen to be in South Mississippi, be sure to stop by the "Little Grand Canyon". A beautiful site will await you featuring colorful sandstone erosion. You can hike down to the Pearl River and explore. Since the place is privately owned, be sure to leave it as clean and beautiful as it is in order to keep it accessible for future visitors!

Nice hiking trail. Area resembles a canyon due to erosion from the Pearl River. Trail goes down to railroad tracks with an abandoned train wreck at the bottom. Stay away from the edge, as it is washed and eroded underneath the rim. Sections of the rim are constantly falling off.

Red Bluff I s very much worth seeing if you are in the area. There's no place like it. I can't say that it's a destination but worth viewing if you are passing through. Keep in mind the bluff is privately owned which would mean it's posted by law. Viewing area is public.
