Don’t be put off by the exterior, this place is authentic offering live Blues nighlly. We went on a Sunday night (starts 7) and our three kids were allowed in. IF you take your kids make sure they are unobtrusive and listen to the music. Our youngest went home with dad as it wasn’t to her taste. Door cover charge $7 per person. Beer sold in bottles from eskies at the bar. Intimate. Terrific. I was worried we wouldn’t experience any real Blues but we found it. The night we came the band was joined at the end by poets and storytellers and a jam with another guitarist. Just great fun.

This is a small blues club where we heard some fantastic live music on a Thursday evening. Small cover charge. Cash only. No food ( but can bring some in) and beer only served. They are very vigilant about no videos but do allow photos. We had so much fun that we didn't get over to hear the band at Ground Zero. The bathrooms are not for the weak of heart though! Highly recommend if you love authentic blues.

Red's Lounge is a juke joint in Clarkesdale, Mississippi, the birthplace of Delta Blues. It caters mainly to travellers who want to hear the blues. It's not luxurious, but that adds to the atmosphere. You can get a beer -- all cash. We heard two elderly guitarists jammimg, it was a great experience. I spoke to one of them later, and he said that the next night he would be playing in Beale St.

You know you are in a different kind of place before you open the door. There’s a cover and there is beer, but little else. It’s cash and carry at Red’s; no credit cards allowed. The night we were there, we were treated to a philosopher blues man who provided history lessons on blues in the Mississippi delta; good, but nothing to write home about. People came and went with ease. Red, the owner, was perched in an old barber chair watching TV the whole time - quirky. My brother had been enthusiastic about the place because he heard a child phenomenon blues guitar player there by the name of Kingfish so we were anxious to go, but Kingfish was not on the bill so our stay was through 2 sets and then we left.

Most of the superlatives have been uttered re. this place and I can only concur that it is raw & dirty( literally!!) and the real deal....it has an underlying vibe of indifference & intimidation which again gives it authenticity and edginess. As a non drinker I went stone cold sober(2 years!!) and must say a drink would made thinks a little more palatable as there were a couple of very drunk guys strutting their stuff.
Luscious Spiller & band were performing and were wonderfully rough round the edges in a Burnside kinda way!!
It was great to see the heritage sign just outside for Big Jack Johnson (The Oilman) who played my bar in the UK some 25 years ago.

This is not Ground Zero, or a House Of Blues.. This is the real deal! Located at a cross roads at MLK BLVD. and SUNFLOWER AVE .. Reds is a old school juke jiont. Where Locals and nation wide musicians come to play, laugh, and have a great time. The owner Red, made my wife and I feel like we were home, The patrons were friendly, and the music was everything you wanted in a delta blues juke!!! Reds serves ice cold beer, and you are welcome to bring a bottle or two , (Red drinks Evan Williams), and if your lucky he is doing some cooking the night you go..(the best ribs I had, and his chicken..awsome) If your into the blues and are with in 100 miles of Clarksdale Ms do yourself a favor and go to Reds... Backed by the river, and fronted by the graveyard..

We were at Reds 9/6/14.Had a really nice night. UNTIL just before closing. Bass player Preston Rumba sat down next to my 24 year old niece. One of the sweetest human beings your ever going to meet by the way, and said something to her that she refuses out of embarrassment to repeat.
I don't like to go around dis crediting people. My niece is graduate student who has no reason to make this up. We were having a great time, and it turned on a dime.

After hearing from several different people that the place to go on that particular night was Reds, we decided to go there over Ground Zero. A wise decision. It isn't much inside or out but you go for the music and to be honest, you want it to be a little seedy. That night Kingfish was playing, a sixteen year old boy there with his Mama. Wow! We had trouble believing he was 16 until he said "back in 2012 when I was in middle school." His mama was definitely in charge and looking out for her baby. For a $7 cover charge, you come in, find a seat( if your lucky) and listen. He was quite a performer and had great stage presence for such a young man. There is only beer, soft drinks, and water for sale. However we were told you can BYOB. The place filled up quickly and was packed when we left. There were locals there too: people we saw the next day at various stores. Wouldn't have missed it!

We got here a bit later, after eating at Ground Zero. We wasn't sure what to expect.
What we got was a very intimate place. Don't ask for a meal, don't even ask for a women's drink, they just sell BEER (we managed to get my misses a coke lol). It's the type of place that does good Blues music, take it or leave, it's that simple. They really don't need to look after you.
This is where the locals hang out, but don't be intimidated, they are there for the same reason you are, beer & music. I felt lucky to get a chance to mingle with them all, it almost gospel like.
Make sure you visit here when in Clarksdale, only blame yourself if you don't!!!

Apparently Red doesn't allow video or photos in his bar, which we didn't know, and he became unnecessarily upset with one of our friends who was using an iPhone to video a performer. Red cursed him, and my wife, saying "you MF-ers" several times. It was insulting and disrespectful. We left the bar out of concern for our safety. Avoid this venue.

Hi, question from the UK. Is Red's Lounge only for adults or are children allowed to visit? Thanks

Inside, I'd say 18+ or whatever the state drinking age is. It wasn't bad or anything, just an adult venue. And the other patrons probably aren't after a young children experience.

Is this a safe place for a single person, traveling alone? I really want to experience the "real deal", but, am always mindful of single traveling, especially to a bar. Thanks!

Yes. Cover charge was $8 when I went. You get beer or water, no soft drink that night. NO Videos or filming. Tip the band/performer.
Go there.

We want to stay at Shack Up Inn when visiting Clarksdale. Is there any transport into Red’s Juke Joint from there?

I think you will probably need a car but definitely stay at the Shack Up, it is fabulous!
Are kids allowed in Reds?

I would say Red’s is not a place to take children. I know I wouldn’t. It’s Very small, loud music & a lot of drinking. Very much an adult bar / juke joint. I love this place but I really wouldn’t recommend it for children at all.

Agree with the other commenters -- Cat Head is the best source of information regarding Red's (and, for that matter, almost anything else regarding Clarksdale). You'll find them at cathead biz. And if you don't see what you want on their website, give Roger a call.

is this an adult venue or can teenagers attend

Probably depends on the teenager. It is a little rough around the edges, but I would have taken mine when they were in their teens.
