My brother and sister-in-law brought their two grandchildren with them for a visit to our home in Biloxi. They wanted to go to the beach, but decided to do so at Ship Island when my wife and I told them how much nicer the Ship Island beach is compared to the Gulfport/Biloxi beaches. We had a wonderful time out at... More

It had been close to 30 years since I had taken the boat to Ship Island. Aside from 2 sets of restrooms, 2 picnic pavilions, a snack bar, chair and umbrella rentals, and the fort, there is just the beach. No problems, no hassles, just a very good place to unwind and appreciate some of the simpler things in life.... More

whether you want to spend the day being lazy on the beach, or collecting seashells, or exploring the old fort, this place has something for everyone. It really is historical and beautiful at the same time. The beach rental chairs and umbrellas come at a great value to

Ship island has a wonderful history that included civil war notations to gambling wheels. The fort has been restored from both Camille and Katrina and is open for tours. You get a sense of what it was like to defend the gulf coast against wouldbe attackers. The ferry is part of the fun and hosts a eclectic crew that will... More

I have been going to Ship Island since I was a child and still love going as an adult. The excursion out to the island, a tour of the Fort, and a fun afternoon on the beach makes a great weekend trip.

I loved that you have to take a boat out to this spot. Also I loved the old Civil War fort on the island. The wildlife reserve aspect of it was also very interesting. It is a beautiful location and with a lot to see. The perfect spot to see a few sights, animal watch and relax.

Take your own boat or take the excursion. Beautiful beaches and clear clean water. Bay side is dead calm and perfect for small children. Gulf side has great waves and high dunes. Park Service operates a small concession. Bring your own food and drink though if you want. Pack out all trash. The fort is a wonderful little side perk... More

Ship Island is still an isolated sand barrier island off the coast of Mississippi, but unlike my last trip out there, it now has full amenities, including improved shelters with plenty of space, an enclosed, air conditioned snack bar, and large bathrooms. What totally sold me on this trip, though, was the surf. Yes, honest to God SURF. It was... More

Not a lot to do right now. Obviously still recovering from hurricane. Not a lot of shade to get out of the hot sun.
