I have been going to ship island since I was my children's ages(3 and 6)....I still love it. There is a gift shop at the ferry dock to purchase souveniers. You have to take a ferry to get there and back, and almost always get...More

Excellent beach. It is a lot cleaner than the other gulf Coast beaches. There are lots of animals on the island and in the water. We even saw an alligator. Overall it is a great place to swim and enjoy the beach.

If you are in Biloxi/Gulfport and want to sped some time in the ocean, do what the locals do ....go to Ship Island. The water is much clearer and you can pick the level of surf depending on which side of the narrow island and...More

The only thing that ruined the experience was the rudeness of the man that worked the beach for chairs/umbrella rentals. As first timers, we had no idea how rentals worked and the cashiers told us to go pick our spot and we could pay out...More

There are no lifeguards and no flags with the water conditions posted. There is no advice from the excursion crew as which side of the island is better for swimming depending on the weather conditions. So if you are not familiar with swimming in the...More

This is a find that you don't see everyday. The fort is well worth exploring and seeing- especially seeing the sights from on top. We walked from the south end of the beach, to the far west and back on the north end. There was...More

My traveling get companion uses a walker and I was wondering how far it will be from the pier to the beach. She can walk but not too far.

The pier and walkway that goes across the island are in good shape but it is a fairly long walk from dock area to the beach. You do have to walk in the sand some going up to the fort. I would say nearly a 1000 ft. to the... More

Would it be worthwhile to bring snorkeling gear? The water doesn't look that clear and I haven't seen much posted in the way of sea life. My wife and I are going in June and don't want to bring something we won't be able to use.

It wouldn't hurt to bring the goggles. You can see some fish and star fish if you dig in the sand. Water clarity depends on weather, rain, etc..sometimes its really nice.
