The boat ride there and back was fabulous. We saw dolphins on the way out. We happened to be going on some historical anniversary so they were dressed in character. The fort was interesting. Period dressed speakers gave information about the fort and the island. The water is not as pretty on the other side as I had always heard... More

Leaving out of the harbor in Gulfport the ride to Ship Island is breathtaking. The Dolphins greeted us about 1/2 way out and escorted us all the way out. The captain is a wonderful man and we learned the boat i s actually a family business and Captain Louis was second generation following his father, Captain Pete Skrmetta. The boat... More

The people who were working our group reservation from beginning to end were great. The meal tickets were a good deal. All we needed to pack for our group was water, sunscreen, bug spray and towels. There are a lot of options on the island from relaxed to very active. We went on the first ferry (recommend) and a few... More

This is an excellent beach. The water and sand looks much nicer than you find along the coast. The short boat ride to the island lasts about 45 minutes and you can often see dolphins along the way. I suggest packing light because you have to cross a very long boardwalk after exiting the boat in order to reach the... More

We have taken friends and family to Ship Island. The boat ride is always relaxing and it's fun to see the dolphins play in the wake of the ferry. The history is interesting to the young and old alike and the beach is pristine. Somewhat larger waves as you're further out int the gulf- but still fun for little kids... More

Enjoyed a great relaxing day. Boat trip there was pleasant. The island is great and the Parks Service has made it very reasonable and convenient. Snack stand prices very reasonable including ice even though you are a "captured audience." Chairs and umbrellas for rent (2 chairs & umbrella =$25 for the day) also very convenient. Sunscreen is a definite must... More

I personally adore the contrast between the southern "wild" part of the island, and the northern "civilized" part. Both of them are super fun though! On the north side, the water is a luxurious, clean turquoise; there are cute lifeguards, and fun amenities. On the south side - where the ferry initially drops you off - is a wind beach... More

This trip was definitely worth making. If want to get away from the beaches around the area, take the ferry to ship island. It's the best too because you can take your own cooler, beach gear and set up your day to be a relaxing one. If you like history, don't forget to visit Fort Massachusetts, and if possible catch... Loved every minute! We have a few suggestions. Buy the beach chairs and umbrella. Bring sunscreen and lip screen bring a speaker if you like music your stuff will be safe. The sand gets hot wear shoes to the waters edge. It's a long walk down the pier to the beach get a rolling ice chest. Your kids will want... More
